HNU enters NCAA II member process; PacWest now largest D-II Conference in West Region PHOENIX, AZ – With the admittance of Holy Names University into the NCAA Division II membership process, the Pacific West Conference is now the largest NCAA athletic conference in the NCAA Division II West Region.

 “It is incredibly exciting that we are now able to say that the PacWest is officially the largest NCAA Division II athletic conference in the West Region,” Commissioner Bob Hogue said. “All of the hard work that our people and institutions have put into this effort has now come to fruition. This is a monumental moment in the history of the PacWest.”

The NCAA membership staff notified the institution on Friday, July 13. Holy Names University will enter Candidacy Year One on Sept. 1, 2012.

"The acceptance into the Division II process is the culmination of hard work by the entire HNU community,” Dennis Jones, the director of athletics, said. “We are proud of the accomplishment and look forward to the next steps and a long relationship with the PacWest and its members."

In addition to HNU being accepted into the process, the PacWest also received confirmation that Academy of Art University has reached Active NCAA Division II membership status beginning this season and is eligible for NCAA II post-season action.

The PacWest also received news that four of its other institutions advanced in the Division II membership process.

California Baptist elevated to Provisional Status, while Azusa Pacific University, Fresno Pacific University and PLNU successfully completed their Candidacy Year One in 2011-12 and are headed into Candidacy Year Two.

During the upcoming 2012-13 campaign, the PacWest will feature 14 schools competing in 15 official conference sports.
