Dixie State teams provide holiday cheer to two local families

ST. GEORGE, UT - Dixie State College Athletics and members of the DSC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and St. George's Target department store, teamed up to bring a little Christmas cheer to two area families in need this holiday season.

According to DSC Head Women's Basketball Coach and SAAC advisor Angie Kristensen, DSC student-athletes banded together and donated money to purchase groceries for each family. In addition, Target donated $500 for clothing, toys and other gifts, which the student-athletes went on to purchase during a special shopping spree.

"This was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to be able to help families who are in need during the holidays," Kristensen said. "We would like to thank Target for their generosity and help in providing us with this opportunity."

Kristensen noted that DSC's SAAC committee is made up of two representatives for each of DSC's 12 intercollegiate athletic programs, the DSC Cheerleaders and Dixie Dance Team. The committee meets monthly and discusses different ways DSC student-athletes can give back to the community that supports them during their respective seasons.

"I can't tell you enough about what great student-athletes we have here at Dixie State College," Kristensen added. "Not only are they excelling in the respective sports and in the classroom, but they still find time to do projects like this."

DSC Athletics is a competing member of the NCAA Division II, which is committed to developing students and communities by actively engaging in shared experiences. Through this community involvement, student-athletes can direct the energy and spirit of winning to positively change society.
