HPU's Hirota, UHH's Lee earn PacWest weekly honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific senior Cheynne Hirota (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) and Hawai‘i Hilo senior pitcher Kekoa Lee (Waipahu, HI/Moanalua) earned this week's Pacific West Conference baseball awards.

Player of the Week (April 20-26) - Cheynne Hirota (right) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., INF/OF, 5-9, 185, R/R, Hilo, HI/Waiakea) - batted .600 in six-game series vs. Hawai‘i Hilo...was 12 for 20 with six runs scored, two doubles and two home runs...drove in 15 runs...had a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base rate...walked three times and reached base on a hit by pitch.

Pitcher of the Week (April 20-26) - Kekoa Lee - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., P/OF, 5-9, 185, L/L, Waipahu, HI/Moanalua) - recorded a seven-inning complete-game victory vs. HPU...allowing no earned runs, just two hits and a .083 batting average...struck out seven...issued just two walks and one extra-base hit.

Blake Amaral - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., INF, 6-1, 190, R/R, Hilo, HI/Kamehameha Schools-Keaau) - hit 545 in six starts...was 12 for 22 with six runs scored and 15 RBI...doubled twice, tripled once and slammed a home run...walked once and reached base after getting hit by a pitch....had a .583 on-base average and an .864 slugging rate.

Aaron Asher (left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., C, 5-9, 180, R/R, Aiea, HI/Aiea) - hit .412 in six games and five starts...went 7 for 17 with eight runs scored and seven RBI...doubled twice...smacked a triple and ripped a home run...walked three times and was hit by a pitch three times...had an .824 slugging average and a .565 on-base rate.

Jimmy Dever - Dixie State (Sr., IF, 5-11, 185, R/R, Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) - batted .500 in a four-game sweep of Grand Canyon...was 8 for 16 at the plate with seven runs scored, one double, two homers and eight RBI...registered a .938 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base average...had three walks and a sacrifice bunt.

Aaron Friend - Dixie State (Jr., IF, 5-11, 170, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) - produced a .571 batting average in a four-game sweep of Grand Canyon...was 8 for 14 with 10 runs scored and three home runs...drove in six runs...walked twice and was hit by a pitch...recorded a 1.214 slugging average...posted a .647 on-base mark.

Jonah Hobson - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., OF, 5-10, 195, L/R, Longview, WA/R.A. Long) - hit 533 in six starts...went 8 for 15 with seven runs scored and four RBI...walked three times...was 3 for 3 in stolen base attempts...dropped a sacrifice bunt...had a 533 slugging average and a .696 on-base rate...reached base five times after being hit by pitches.

Jayson Madson - Dixie State (Sr., P, 6-1, 185, R/R, Tremonton, UT/Bear River) - earned a victory in start vs. Grand Canyon by tossing seven innings of complete-game ball...allowed one earned run and a 1.29 ERA...struck out seven and scattered five hits...produced a .192 batting average.

Keoni Manago - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., OF, 5-9, 165, R/R, Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) - hit .682 in six starts, going 15 for 22 with 12 runs scored and three doubles...produced five RBI and stole four bases...walked once and hit a sacrifice fly...registered an 818 slugging average and a .667 on-base rate.

Jeff Mutchler - Grand Canyon (Sr., C, 6-0, 205, R/R, Glendale, AZ/Mountain Ridge) - hit 600 in four games and three starts...was 6 for 10 with two RBI and a double...walked twice...registered a .700 slugging rate and a .667 on-base average.

Tony Nelson - Dixie State (So., IF, 6-1, 180, L/R, St. George, UT/Dixie) - hit .533 in four starts vs. Grand Canyon...went 8 for 15 with seven runs scored and six RBI...doubled and homered...walked three times...dropped a sacrifice bunt...turned in an 800 slugging average and a .611 on-base rate.

Skyler Southwick (right) - Dixie State (Sr., P, 6-5, 165, R/R, Las Vegas, NV/Basic) - tossed a nine-inning complete-game victory vs. Grand Canyon...allowed one earned run and scattered seven base hits...struck out seven...permitted a .219 batting average.
