Grand Canyon moves into PacWest LWS title game after handing HPU 16-6 defeat

St. GEORGE, UT - Grand Canyon advanced to the championship game of the 2009 Pacific West Conference Little World Series by beating Hawaii Pacific 16-6 on Saturday evening in St. George, UT.

The victory set up a Saturday night rematch between unbeaten Dixie State (2-0) and the Antelopes (3-1) who were doused by the Red Storm earlier in the tournament.

The four-day PacWest Little World Series is being hosted by Dixie State College in St. George, UT, from May 6-9. Saturday marked the final day of competition.

Matt Fox went 3 for 5 with three runs scored, four RBI, a double and a mammoth home run to left field, while John Stanko was 4 for 5 with three RBI, two runs scored, a triple and two doubles. Stanko raised his tournament batting average to .786 in four games.

Jay Green and Austin Stockfisch each went 3 for 5 with two RBI, and PJ Garcia scored three times. Green crossed the plate three times as well, while Stockfisch tallied two runs.

Billy Schroeder slammed a home run after coming into the game in the seventh.

Colin Courtland tossed seven innings and earned the victory. He allowed four earned runs and struck out four.

HPU was led by Aaron Asher who went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a homer and four RBI. Derek Grace went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.
