Down 3-0, Dixie St. explodes for 23 unanswered runs en route to 24-8 win

St. GEORGE, UT - After surrendering three runs in the top
of the first inning, Dixie State unleashed a 23-run barrage en
route to a 24-8 thumping of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Wednesday night
in Game 3 of the Pacific West Conference Little World Series.
The four-day Division II baseball tournament is being hosted by Dixie State College in St. George, UT. The victory lands Dixie State into Thursday night's contest (7 p.m.) vs. the winner of Grand Canyon and Hawaii Pacific that is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Storm scored nine runs over the first four innings, before exploding for 14 more in the bottom of the fifth. The huge lead invoked the mercy rule after the seventh inning.
UPR-Rio Piedras will face the winner of UPR-Bayamon vs. UPR-Mayaguez on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Drew Oldfield smashed his PacWest-leading 18th home run of the season, belting a grand slam and finishing the game with three runs scored and four RBI. Brett Adams also homered, going 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Jesse Stone was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI.
Tim Mott swatted his first home run of the year, going 1 for 1 in the game with three runs scored and two RBI.
The Gallistos took a three-run lead in the first inning when Eric Rosario smashed a three-run blast over the left-center field fence. He finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Jose Oquendo was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
