Dixie State storms into PacWest Little World Series Championship with 20-7 win over GCU

St. GEORGE, UT - For the second straight game Dixie State unleashed its 20-gun offensive cannons on the opposition, this time resulting in a 20-7 thumping of Grand Canyon on Thursday night in the Pacific West Conference Little World Series.

The game ended under the 10-run rule in the seventh inning.

The victory sends the Red Storm into the championship game Saturday night at 7 p.m. vs. the survivor of the losers' bracket that will be determined on Friday and Saturday. Grand Canyon will play Saturday at 3 p.m. against Hawaii Pacific, UPR-Bayamon or UPR-Rio Piedras for the chance to take on Dixie State for the title.

The four-day Division II baseball tournament is being hosted by Dixie State College in St. George, UT.

Tyson Littlewood smashed a pair of doubles, going 3 for 4 with four runs scored, while Tony Nelson and Aaron Friend each went 4 for 5 in the contest. Friend scored four runs and Nelson drove in four while scoring twice.

Brett Adams and Alex Rosenhan each went 3 for 4 with Rosenhan driving in three runs and scoring twice. Adams knocked in four runs and scored once. Aaron Friend also scored four times for Dixie State.

Preston Grimes earned the victory, allowing seven runs and striking out five in 5.1 innings of work.

Grand Canyon was led by Ryan Codling who went 2 for 2 with three RBI and a run scored, while Matt Fox went 2 for 4 and Jeff Mutchler was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
