On 4th try, BYU-Hawaii beats Chaminade, advances to West Region title game
ANCHORAGE, AK - Sophomore forward Lucas Alves scored 18 points and point guard Corey Nielson had 15 points and six assists to lead 7th-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii into the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Region title game with an 83-62 win over league rival Chaminade at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
The Seasiders (20-7) will take on the winner of Saturday's late
semifinal between top-seeded Alaska Anchorage and
5th-seeded Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m. ADT Monday.
The Silverswords (21-8), seeded No. 3 in the region and ranked 25th nationally, were led by 17 points from guard Mike Green in the loss.
With the win, BYUH avenged an 0-3 mark against the Pacific West Conference regular-season champs. The Seasiders also got 13 points from reserve guard Jeremy Brown, plus 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds from senior guard Paul Peterson.
