Kussler claims PacWest honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Chaminade senior forward Stewart Kussler (Santa Maria, CA/St. Joseph) has been chosen the PacWest Player of the Week. The honor is for games contested from Dec. 3-9.

Kussler led the Silverswords to a split at the Sonoma State Tournament, including a big Far West Region triumph vs. Humboldt State.

He averaged 18.0 points over two games, including going 5 for 5 from beyond the arc, while his ferocious shooting produced a 14-for-16 week and an 87.5 shooting percentage from the field.

He was named to the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic All-Tournament Team at Sonoma State.

3 PacWest players earn All-Tournament accolades

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - The PacWest landed a trio of players on the 7th Annual Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic All-Tournament Team over the weekend at Sonoma State. Chaminade University split a pair of games, dropping a contest vs. host Sonoma State but claiming a huge Far West Region victory over Humboldt State. Notre Dame de Namur lost a pair of contests in the event.

Chaminade saw two of its players make the All-Tournament squad, including PacWest Player of the Week Stewart Kussler (Santa Maria, CA/St. Joseph) and senior forward/center Marko Kolaric (Novi Sad, Serbia).

Kolaric led the league in rebounding for the week, pulling down 13.0 per game after totalling 26 boards in two outings. He had 18 defensive rebounds during the tournament.

Junior forward Rodrick Johnson (Anaheim, CA/Canyon Springs) also was outstanding on the glass for the Silverswords, swiping 18 for a 9.0 average.

NDNU senior guard Chris Clock (Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) was an offensive machine for the Argos in earning All-Tournament accolades. He averaged 19.5 points per game by making 15 of 28 field goal attempts (53.6%), including seven treys. He finished the game 7 for 16 (43.8%) from beyond the arc.

BYU-Hawaii had one game on the week and flattened Henderson State 96-62. The Seasiders are averaging right around 100 points per game and have been led by sophomore forward Lucas Alves (Casa Branca, Brazil/Colegio Avanqo Ensino Progranado) through the early part of the season. Alves scored 28 points on 13 of 17 (76.5%) shooting in his lone contest while also grabbing nine rebounds.

Dixie State fell to Westminster (UT) 77-66 on Saturday despite 16 points from senior Troy Randall (Salt Lake City, UT/East). The Rebels are off until Dec. 21 when they host Cal State Los Angeles.

Grand Canyon also dropped its lone match of the week at Cal State Dominguez Hills by a 68-59 score even though senior forward Rudy Bogan (Glendale, AZ/Thornwood) led the Antelopes with 16 points and six rebounds. Grand Canyon heads to northeastern Arizona where they will meet the Haskell Indians Nation on Saturday afternoon.

Hawai‘i Pacific and Hawai‘i Hilo were idle last week.
