Lucas Alves honored again by PacWest
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - BYU-Hawaii sophomore forward Lucas Alves (Casa Branca, Brazil/Colegio Avanqo Ensino Progranado) has been chosen the PacWest Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The honor is for games contested from Dec. 17-23.
In three games during the week, Alves scored 82 points, averaging 27.3 per game. He grabbed 42 rebounds, averaging 14.0 boards per contest, leading the PacWest in rebounding - as well as scoring - for the week.
Alves also shot 54.9% from the field, making 28 of 51 field goal attempts.

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - With the conference season looming just days away, the PacWest men's basketball teams are closing out most of their non-league schedules against an array of teams from around the country.
Here is the PacWest roundup for the week:
#9 BYU-Hawaii: The Seasiders posted a 1-2 week that could easily have been a 3-0 stretch...BYU-Hawaii dropped a gut-wrenching 95-90 double-overtime decision vs. Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 17...the next night the Seasiders reached the century mark for the fourth time this season in subduing Florida Southern 103-84...on Dec. 22 #17 Seattle Pacific slipped out of Laie with a two-point victory.
Chaminade: The Silverswords posted a 1-1 week thanks to junior forward Rodrick Johnson (Anaheim, CA/Canyon Springs) who averaged 21.5 points per game...senior forward/center Marko Kolaric (Novi Sad, Serbia) averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest over the two games.
Dixie State: The Rebels tackled Cal State Los Angeles in
St. George on Dec. 21 but dropped a tough 79-67 decision...senior
center Kasey Winters (Mesquite, NV/Virgin Valley -
photo) led Dixie State in scoring by dropping 20
points...he also pulled down 14 boards in the contest.
Grand Canyon: The Antelopes beat Western New Mexico 82-67 on Dec. 22 thanks to senior forward Ladi Makinde (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain)...the veteran hit 8 of 13 shots from the field (61.5%) en route to a 24-point effort...he also pulled down six boards...junior guard Milee Karre (Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye) doled out seven assists.
Hawai‘i Hilo: The Vulcans were edged by Alaska Anchorage 73-72 on Dec. 21 in their lone contest of the week...senior guard Rashad Bilal (White Plains, NY/Edison) scored 17 points and senior forward Samuel Wilhoite (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) added 12.
Hawai‘i Pacific: The Sea Warriors dropped all three games leading up to the Christmas break, falling to a trio of solid Division II programs in Florida Southern, Tampa and the Colorado School of Mines...sophomore guard Rishi Kakad (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon) averaged 14.0 points per game during the week.
NDNU: The Argos did not play.
