Lucas Alves earns third PacWest Player of the Week honor 

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - BYU-Hawaii sophomore center Lucas Alves (Casa Branca, Brazil/Colegio Avanqo Ensino Progranado) has been chosen the PacWest Player of the Week for the third time this year.

The honor is for games contested from Feb. 11-17.

Alves averaged 21.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while leading the Seasiders to a 3-0 week.

He shot 64.1% from the field by making 25 of 39 field goal attempts, and he connected on 12 of his 14 free throw attempts (85.7%).

 

    

PacWest Men's Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Vince Alvarado (Victorville, CA/Silverado) - The senior guard led Hawai‘i Hilo to a 1-1 week after he averaged 16.3 points and 2.67 assists per game. He shot 52.9% from three-point range (9 for 17) and averaged 3.00 three-pointers made per contest.

Dan Bergeron (Sunnyvale, CA/Fremont) - The junior forward averaged 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for Notre Dame de Namur as the Argos posted a 1-2 week. He also averaged 2.00 three-pointers made per contest and shot 54.5% from beyond the arc (6 for 11).

Jason Curtis (Landover, MD/Du Val) - The Hawai‘i Pacific junior guard averaged 18.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as the Sea Warriors won two of three games for the week. He led the PacWest in three-point shooting, making 7 of 9 (77.8%) long-range attempts, and made 77.8% of his foul shots (14 of 18). He also converted 58.6% of his field goal attempts (17 for 29) and averaged 3.00 assists per game.

David Gonzales (Puyallup, WA/Sumner) - The senior guard from Grand Canyon averaged 23.7 points per game despite an 0-3 week by the Antelopes. He shot 64.3% from the field (27 for 42) and made 9 of 19 three-point attempts (47.4%) while giving out 2.67 assists per game. He also averaged 3.00 three-pointers made per contest.

Rishi Kakad (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon - photo) - The Hawai‘i Pacific sophomore guard guided the Sea Warriors to a 2-1 week by posting 20.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. He shot 52.2% from three-point land after converting 12 of 23 attempts.

Paul Peterson (Abilene, TX/Cooper) - BYU-Hawaii's senior guard averaged 9.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per outing. He also shot 87.5% from the foul line (7 for 8).

Ryan Sanchez (Ogden, UT/Fremont) - The junior averaged 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds - tops in the PacWest - as Dixie State posted a 1-1 week. Sanchez was perfect from the foul line (8 for 8).

Nathan Sims (Sky Valley, CA/Desert Hot Springs) - The BYU-Hawaii junior forward led the PacWest in shooting last week by making 19 of 26 (73.1%) field goal attempts. He averaged 16.7 points per game.

Samuel Wilhoite (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) - The senior forward averaged 13.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest for Hawai‘i Hilo last week. He shot 51.9% from the field (14 for 27) for the Vulcans.

Kasey Winters (Mesquite, NV/Virgin Valley) - The Dixie State senior center averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest in a split with Hawai‘i Hilo last week. Winters shot 84.4% from the line (27 for 32) and led the league in blocked shots per game (1.50).
