Joel Smith named PacWest Player of the Week

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Chaminade senior guard Joel Smith (Lompac, CA/Lompac) led the Silverswords to a 2-0 mark to earn the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award.

The honor was announced on Monday, Feb. 9, by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, for games played from Feb. 2-8.

Smith averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.00 assists, 3.50 steals and 1.50 three-pointers made per game for Chaminade. He led the league in steals per game for the week, tied for ninth in assist average, and ranked fourth in both scoring and rebounding. He shot 61.1% (11 for 18) from the floor to stand fifth in the PacWest for the week.

PacWest Men's Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Lucas Alves - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., F/C, 6-9, 230, Casa Branca, Brazil)...averaged 23.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Seasiders...shot 52.9% from the floor and 90.0% from the line (9 for 10)...ranked second in scoring, ninth in shooting and seventh in foul shooting in the PacWest for the Week...also averaged 2.00 steals per contest.

Jacob Briggs (photo) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-4, 200, Burbank, CA/Village Christian)...scored 14 points and culled 11 rebounds in overtime win vs. Dixie State on Feb. 7.

Tsung-Hsien Chang - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., Yilan, Taiwan)...averaged 16.0 points while shooting 55.6% (10 for 18) over a pair of contests...ranked fifth in scoring and eighth in shooting in the PacWest for the week.

Jason Curtis - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., G, 6-0, 175, Landover, MD/Du Val)...averaged 15.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for HPU...ranked seventh in scoring for the week in the conference...averaged 5.50 assists and 2.00 steals per game...ranked fifth in assist average and tied for seventh in steals per game for the week...hit four three-pointers.

Jay DeMaestri - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-6, 240, Mill Valley, CA/Tam)...scored 26 points and collected 13 rebounds in overtime victory vs. Dixie State on Feb. 7...marked the lone game of the week for the Vulcans...hit all seven free throw attempts...made 3 of 7 three-pointers (42.9%).

Dalton Groskreutz - Dixie State (Fr., F, 6-6, 200, St. George, UT/Snow Canyon)...averaged 12.7 points per game in a tough 0-3 week in Hawai‘i...shot 57.7% from the floor (15 for 26)...ranked seventh in the PacWest in field goal percentage for the week.

Jeff Ingram (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., G, 6-4, 185, Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek)...averaged 15.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Sea Warriors...shared the lead in the PacWest in three-point shooting for the week with a 46.7% (7 for 15) rate...also shared the lead in three-pointers made per game (3.50).

Bennie Murray - NDNU (Fr., G, 6-4, 160, Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood)...averaged 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Argos...ranked ninth in scoring and tied for fifth in rebounding for the week...shared the PacWest lead for the week in three-pointers made per game (3.50) and three-point shooting (46.7%)...hit 7 of 15 shots from beyond the arc.

Engen Nurumbi (photo) - Grand Canyon (Sr., C, 6-7, 230, Kinshasa, Congo)...averaged 15.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in a tough 0-3 week for the Antelopes...ranked sixth in scoring and 10th in rebounding for the week in the conference.

John Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., G, 6-2, 165, Berkeley, CA/Pinole Valley)...scored 17 points and handed out seven assists in Vulcans' victory over Dixie State on Feb. 7.
