Lucas Alves collects another PacWest award

 QUEEN CREEK, AZ - BYU-Hawaii junior forward/center Lucas Alves (Casa Branca, Brazil) pushed the Seasiders one step closer to a conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, earning the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor along the way.

The award was announced on Monday, Feb. 16, by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, for games played from Feb. 9-15.

Alves averaged 24.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of road victories at Hawai‘i Hilo on Feb. 10 & 11. The Seasiders need just a victory at Dixie State this week to clinch the PacWest Championship.

Jacob Briggs (photo) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-4, 200, Burbank, CA/Village Christian)...averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a pair of losses vs. BYU-Hawaii...shot 57.9% from the floor (11 for 19)...ranked fourth in scoring and rebounding, and seventh in shooting for the week in the PacWest...was 9 for 9 from the foul line.

Jay DeMaestri - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-6, 240, Mill Valley, CA/Tam)...averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of tough losses vs. BYU-Hawaii...was 4 for 4 from the foul line...connected on 7 of 16 three-point attempts (43.8%).

Dalton Groskreutz - Dixie State (Fr., F, 6-6, 200, St. George, UT/Snow Canyon)...scored 15 points to lead the Red Storm by HPU on Saturday night...shot 83.3% from the floor (5 for 6).

Mike Helton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., G/F, 6-6, 185, El Paso, TX/Montwood)...averaged 12.0 points per game in a pair of losses by the Sea Warriors last week...shot 57.1% from the floor (8 for 14)...hit 50% of his three-point attempts (4 for 8)...averaged 2.00 three-pointers made per game and 1.50 steals per contest during the week.

Milee Karre - Grand Canyon (Sr., G, 6-2, 180, Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye)...ranked second in the PacWest for the week in assist average (4.33 per game)...helped guide the Antelopes to a 3-0 week... averaged 11.0 points per contest...drained four three-pointers during the week.

Bennie Murray (photo) - NDNU (Fr., G, 6-4, 160, Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood)...averaged 13.5 points and 2.5 three-pointers made per game during a tough 0-2 week for the Argos...NDNU dropped both games at Grand Canyon...was perfect from the foul line (8 for 8)...hit 41.7% of his three-point attempts (5 for 12).

Engen Nurumbi - Grand Canyon (Sr., C, 6-7, 230, Kinshasa, Congo)...led the Antelopes to a 3-0 week...averaged 15.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game...shot 52.9% from the field (18 for 34)...ranked fifth in scoring and eighth in rebounding for the week in the conference...averaged 1.67 blocks per game.

Jermaine Odjegba - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., F, 6-7, 190, West Palm Beach, FL/P alm Beach Gardens)...averaged 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during a pair of BYU-Hawaii victories over Hawai‘i Hilo...ranked fourth in the PacWest in scoring for the week after making 66.7% of his field goal attempts (8 for 12).

Ryan Sanchez - Dixie State (Sr., G, 6-4, 185, Ogden, UT/Fremont)...scored 20 points and collected nine rebounds on Saturday night in an 80-72 victory over Hawai‘i Pacific...shot 80% from the floor (4 for 5) and was 9 for 9 from the line...made all three of his three-point attempts.

Chris Silzer - NDNU (Jr., G, 6-2, 175, Templeton, CA/Templeton)...averaged 10.5 points while shooting 52.9% from the field in an 0-2 week vs. Grand Canyon...hit 9 of 17 field goal attempts...averaged 2.00 steals per game to rank second in the PacWest for the week...averaged 1.50 three-pointers made per game.
