Lucas Alves captures PacWest weekly honor

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - BYU-Hawaii junior forward Lucas Alves (Casa Branca, Brazil) guided the Seasiders to a pair of victories to earn the latest Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award.

The honor was announced on Monday, Jan. 19, by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, for games played from Jan. 12-18.

Alves averaged 23.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over two contests while shooting 66.7% from the floor (18 for 27). He hit 4 of 6 three-point attempts and averaged 2.00 three-pointers made per game. He ranked second in scoring, fifth in rebounding, second in shooting and second in three-point shooting for the week in the PacWest.

PacWest Men's Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Dan Bergeron (photo) - NDNU (Sr., F, 6-7, 210, San Jose, CA/Fremont)...averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in three PacWest road contests in Hawai‘i last week...averaged 4.00 assists per contest.

Virgil Buensuceso - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., G, 5-9, 170, Eagle Rock, CA/Eagle Rock)...averaged 15.0 points, 3.00 steals and 10.00 assists per game in a 2-0 week for the Seasiders...led the PacWest in steal and assist average...ranked ninth in scoring...shot 45.5% from beyond the arc (5 for 11)...averaged 2.50 three-pointers made per game...ranked seventh in three's made per game and ninth in three-point shooting.

Darrell Birton - Chaminade (Sr., G, 5-11, 170, San Jose, CA/Wilcox)...averaged 17.0 points per game over two contests in a 1-1 week for the Silverswords...shot 61.5% from three-point land (8 for 13)...ranked sixth in three-point shooting and sixth in scoring in the PacWest for the week...ranked third for the week in three-pointers made per game (4.00)...averaged 2.00 steals per contest.

Tsung-Hsien Chang - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., Yilan, Taiwan)...averaged 14.5 points on 73.3% shooting from the field for the week...led the PacWest in shooting for the week after making 11 of 15 field goal attempts...pulled down 4.00 rebounds per contest.

Jason Curtis (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., G, 6-0, 175, Landover, MD/Du Val)...scored 16 points and passed out seven assists in Sea Warriors' lone game of the week - a victory over NDNU...also grabbed three steals and drilled four three-point attempts...shot 66.7% from three-point land (4 for 6)...ranked second in three-point shooting, third in three-pointers made per game, first in steals, second in assists and seventh in scoring for the week in the conference.

Adrian den Dulk - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., F, 6-9, 230, Ripon, CA/Ripon Christian)...scored 19 points and collected five rebounds in victory over NDNU on Jan. 15...it marked HPU's lone game of the week...was 6 for 6 from the foul line and shot 66.7% from the floor (6 for 9)...blocked three shots to lead the league for the week.

Cliff Hodge - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., F, 6-4, 200, Lemoore, CA/Lemoore)...scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in victory vs. NDNU on Jan. 15...it marked HPU's lone game of the week...shot 66.7% from the floor (6 for 9).

Ryan Sanchez (photo) - Dixie State (Sr., G, 6-4, 185, Ogden, UT/Fremont)...led the PacWest in scoring for the week after posting 27 points in a victory over Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 17...shot 66.7% from the floor (10 for 15)...was perfect from three-point land (5 for 5)...pulled down nine rebounds in the victory...also doled out four assists.

Joel Smith - Chaminade (Sr., G, 6-4, 210, Lompoc, CA/Lompoc)...averaged 15.5 points per game over two contests...ranked eighth in scoring in the PacWest for the week...averaged 2.00 steals, 2.50 three-pointers made and 7.0 rebounds per game...ranked seventh in three-pointers made per game for the week...ranked fourth in steals and sixth in rebounding per contest for the week.

John Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., G, 6-2, 165, Berkeley, CA/Pinole Valley)...scored 23 points in loss at Dixie State on Jan. 17...hit 5 of 8 three-point field goal attempts to shoot 62.5% from beyond the arc...ranked second in scoring and fifth in three-point shooting for the week in the PacWest.
