Noah Gottlieb earns PacWest weekly honor

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Chaminade junior guard Noah Gottlieb (Los Angeles, CA/Venice) led the Silverswords to a 3-0 mark to earn the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award.

The honor was announced on Monday, Jan. 26, by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, for games played from Jan. 19-25.

Gottlieb averaged 13.3 points per game over three contests while pulling down 7.7 boards per contest.

He ranked second for the week in the PacWest in shooting after making 65.2% of his field goal attempts (15 for 23), and he also ranked second in assist average after doling out 6.67 per game over the three games.

Gottlieb led the league in three-point shooting with a 60% average (6 for 10) and ranked fifth in steal average (2.00).

Lucas Alves - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., F/C, 6-9, 230, Casa Branca, Brazil)...scored 13 points and inhaled 12 rebounds in 18-point victory over HPU on Jan. 24...marked the lone game of the week for the Seasiders...also had two steals and two blocked shots.

Perry Baggett (photo) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-7, 210, Oakland, CA/Crenshaw)...averaged 14.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Vulcans...shot 63.2% from the field (12 for 19)...ranked ninth in the league in scoring for the week...averaged 8.0 rebounds and 4.00 assists per contest...ranked seventh in rebounding and seventh in assist average for the week...ranked fourth in shooting.

Dan Bergeron - NDNU (Sr., F, 6-7, 210, San Jose, CA/Fremont)...scored 21 points and gobbled up 17 rebounds in a tough four-overtime loss vs. Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 23...also handed out seven assists.

David Cuen - Grand Canyon (Jr., F, 6-5, 210, Somerton, AZ/Cibola)...averaged 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Antelopes...ranked sixth in scoring and sixth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...also ranked fourth in steals per game (2.33).

Jason Curtis (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., G, 6-0, 175, Landover, MD/Du Val)...averaged 14.7 points, 2.67 steals and 5.33 assists per game for the Sea Warriors during a tough 0-3 week...ranked third in steals, fifth in assists, eighth in scoring and fourth in three-point shooting for the week in the PacWest...shot 45.5% from beyond the arc (10 for 22)...averaged 3.33 three-pointers made per game to rank third in the league for the week.

Jay DeMaestri - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 6-6, 240, Mill Valley, CA/Tam)...averaged 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game for the Vulcans in a 1-1 week...averaged 3.50 three-pointers made per game.

Bennie Murray - NDNU (Fr., G, 6-4, 160, Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood)...scored 25 points and shot 50% from beyond the arc (6 for 12) in a quadruple-overtime loss vs. Hawai‘i Hilo...it marked NDNU's lone game of the week...collected five rebounds and handed out four assists.

Andy Palmer - Dixie State (Jr., F, 6-5, 220, St. George, UT/Pine View)...averaged 18.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for Dixie State...also averaged 8.0 rebounds per game...ranked fifth in scoring and seventh in rebounding in the PacWest for the week.

John Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., G, 6-2, 165, Berkely, CA/Pinole Valley)...averaged 21.0 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Vulcans...shot 85.7% from the foul line (12 for 14)...averaged 3.00 three-pointers made per game...also averaged 5.50 assists and 3.00 steals per contest...ranked second in scoring, fifth in free throw shooting, second in steal average and fourth in assists per game for the week in the PacWest.

Mohamed Tangara - Chaminade (Sr., C, 6-8, 250, Bamako, Mali)...averaged a double-double in a 3-0 week for the Silverswords...scored 14.3 points and pulled down 10.0 rebounds per contest for the Silverswords...ranked 10th in scoring and fifth in rebounding in the conference for the week...made 15 of 20 free throw attempts (75.0%) to rank ninth...averaged 1.67 steals per contest.
