Vulcan's Justin Smith earns Player of the Week honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo senior forward Justin Smith (Los Angeles, CA/Reseda) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Tuesday, Dec. 29, for games contested Dec. 21-27.
Smith led the Vulcans to a victory over Grace Bible (MI) by scoring 22 points, grabbing four rebounds, committing two steals, and shooting 73.3% from the field. He connected on 11 of his 15 attempts from the floor.
The Vulcans won the contest 78-71 in their lone game of the week.

Andrew Gipson - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-0, 180, G, Hercules, CA/Salesian)...doled out a league-best 11 assists on Dec. 22 as UHH claimed a 78-71 win over Grace Bible (MI)...lone game of the week for the Vulcans...also contributed six points and three rebounds.
Bryan Ngo - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-10, 175, G, San Jose,
CA/Santa Clara)...scored 17 points in 78-71 win over
Grace Bible (MI) on Dec. 22...lone game of the week for the
Vulcans...recorded five steals, three assists and shot 46.2% from
the floor (6 for 13)...ranked second in the PacWest in scoring for
the week.
Andy Palmer (left) - Dixie State (Sr., 6-5, 220, F, St. George, UT/Pine View)...pulled down eight rebounds and scored 11 points in 63-60 loss vs. Montana State Billings on Dec. 21...marked lone game of the week for the Red Storm...shot 45.5% (5 for 11) from the field.
Donovan Plunkett - Dixie State (Jr., 5-11, 160, G, Oroville, CA/Las Plumas)...solid all-around game despite 63-60 loss vs. Montana State Billings on Dec. 21...marked lone game of the week for the Red Storm...scored six points, collected seven rebounds, recorded five steals, and was 4 for 4 from the foul line.
Lavell Shipman - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-3, 170, G, Wilson, NC/Hunt)...was a perfect 5 for 5 from the floor en route to 11 points on Dec. 22 as UHH claimed a 78-71 win over Grace Bible (MI)...lone game of the week for the Vulcans.
