BYU-Hawaii's Jet Chang earns Player of the Week honors

Jet Chang soars with PacWest weekly honor

PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii sophomore guard Tsung-Hsien (Jet) Chang (Taiwan/Sing Rong) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Dec. 7, for games contested Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

Chang led the Seasiders to a 2-1 week by averaging 23.7 points per game, second for the week in the PacWest, and shot 65.2% (30 for 46) from the field to rank ninth for the week in the conference.

Chang tied for 10th in the league in assists per game (3.3), tied for third in three-pointers made per contest (2.0), and tied for sixth in steals per game (2.3). He also shot 40% (6 for 15) from three-point land.

For his efforts, Chang named the MVP of the Seattle Pacific University Tournament.

Virgil Buensuceso - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-9, 170, G, Eagle Rock, CA/Eagle Rock)...helped BYU-Hawaii to a 2-1 week by averaging 18.3 points per game...ranked third in the league in scoring for the week...tied for 10th in assists per game (3.3).

Matt Cousins - Chaminade (So., 6-8, 215, F, Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman)...scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in 71-66 Chaminade win over La Verne on Dec. 4...shot 57.1% from the floor (4 for 7)...made 77.8% (7 for 9) of his free throw attempts.

C.J. Jackson - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-8, 265, F, Buena Vista, GA/Tri-County)...reeled off 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in 72-63 victory over La Verne (CA) on Dec. 3...was phenomenal from the field, making 13 of 14 shots (92.9%)...also topped the PacWest in blocks with five for the week.

Andy Palmer (right) - Dixie State (Sr., 6-5, 220, F, St. George, UT/Pine View)...helped the Red Storm fly to a 2-0 week by averaging 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest...tied for eighth in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...shot 66.7% (10 for 15) from the field to tie for sixth in the conference for the week...made 75% (3 for 4) of his three-point attempts.

Chandler Pearson - Chaminade (Jr., 6-3, 190, G, Huntington, UT/Emery)...scored 15 points and inhaled eight rebounds in 71-66 Chaminade win over La Verne on Dec. 4...made a living at the free throw line...connected on 91.7% of attempts (11 for 12).

Ivan Prema - Academy of Art (Fr., 6-1, 170, G, East Palo Alto, CA/Eastside College Prep)...scored 16 points and collected nine rebounds in Urban Knights lone game of the week - a 91-72 loss vs. Division I Loyola Marymount...shot 60% (6 for 10) from the field...was 2 for 2 from the line and 2 for 2 from three-point land.

Nick Storment (left) - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-8, 245, C, Turlock, CA/Turlock)...led the Argos in scoring in their lone game of the week - a 69-66 loss vs. Cal State Maritime on Dec. 2...posted 17 points on 6 of 10 (60.0%) shooting from the field...hit 5 of 6 free throw attempts (83.3%).

Rony Tchatchoua - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-6, N/A, F, Little Rock, AR/Christian)...averaged 12.0 points while shooting 66.7% from the field in a 1-1 week for the Antelopes...tied for sixth on the week in shooting after making 8 of 12 attempts.

Norman Wells - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-8, 250, F, Madison, IN/Madison Consolidated)...scored 13 points and snagged seven rebounds in 72-63 victory over La Verne (CA) on Dec. 3...added four assists, a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio and a blocked shot...made 2 of 3 (66.7%) three-point attempts.

Tom Whitehead - Dixie State (Jr., 6-6, 185, F, St. George, UT/Dixie)...helped the Red Storm roll to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest...ranked fourth in scoring and eighth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...shot 45.5% from beyond the arc (5 for 11) to rank 10th for the week in three-point shooting...ranked second in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.5).
