HPU's C.J. Jackson earns another PacWest Weekly honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific senior forward
C.J. Jackson (Buena Vista, GA/Tri-County)
has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball
Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Feb. 1, for games contested Jan. 25-31.
Jackson led the Sea Warriors to a 2-0 week after averaging 22.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game.
He led the PacWest in rebounding and ranked fifth in scoring average for the week, while he shot 57.7% (15 for 26) from the floor.
He also was stellar on defense, averaging 5.5 blocks per game to lead the PacWest for the week.

three-point attempts...tied for second in three-point shooting for
the week in the PacWest.
T.J. Benson - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-0, 170, G, Tempe, AZ/Corona del Sol)...shot 83.3% (5 for 6) from the field in leading GCU to 82-80 win over Dixie St. on Jan. 30...saddled Red Storm with first loss of year...had 16 points...shot 80.0% (4 for 5) from beyond the arc - best in PacWest for the week.
Austin Bryan - Dominican (CA) (Fr., 6-4, 190, G, Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee)...scored 28 points and shot 60.0% from the floor (9 for 15) in Penguins' 70-59 win over NDNU on Jan. 29...tied for the league lead in scoring for the week in the PacWest...tied for eighth in shooting...was perfect at the line (8 for 8)...hit 2 of 4 (50.0%) three-point attempts...led the league in steals per game for the week (4.0)...recorded four in win over NDNU.
Shane Hanson - Chaminade (Jr., 6-6, 230, F, Canyon Lake, CA/Temescal Canyon)...scored 17 points and snagged eight rebounds in 80-74 loss vs. BYU-Hawaii on Jan. 29...led the conference in three-pointers made per game (5.0)...made all five vs. BYU-Hawaii...also recorded a pair of steals.
Mike Helton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-6, 187, G/F, El Paso,
TX/Montwood)...averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds
in 2-0 week for the Sea Warriors...tied for third in scoring and
tied for fourth in rebounding for the week in the conference...also
averaged 4.0 assists per game to tie for sixth...tied for fifth in
steals per game (2.0) and in assist/turnover ratio (4.0).
Ray Murdock - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-3, 205, G/F, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle)...averaged 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Sea Warriors...ranked third in rebounding and sixth in scoring for the week in the PacWest...averaged 5.0 assists per contest, tying for fourth for the week...also averaged 2.0 steals per contest.
Bryan Ngo - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-10, 175, G, San Jose, CA/Santa Clara)...scored 28 points in 103-99 overtime loss vs. HPU - Vulcans' lone game of the week...shot 53.3% (8 for 15) from the field...grabbed five rebounds and doled out six assists...tied for league lead in assist average (6.0) for the week in the conference...shot 83.3% (10 for 12) from the line...registered a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio...hit 2 of 3 (66.7%) three-point attempts.
Donovan Plunkett - Dixie State (Jr., 5-11, 160, G, Oroville,
CA/Las Plumas)...helped the Red Storm to a 1-1 week
by averaging 17.5 points per game...ranked eighth in scoring for
the week in the conference...shot 50.0% (4 for 8) from beyond the
arc...went 9 for 9 from the foul line.
Justin Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-6, 205, F, Los Angeles, CA/Reseda)...posted 23 points and nine boards in 103-99 overtime loss vs. HPU - Vulcans' lone game of the week...shot 52.9% (9 for 17) from the field...tied for third in scoring and tied for fourth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Marques Whippy - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-5, 215, G, Bua, Fiji/LDS)...scored 14 points and collected 14 rebounds in 80-74 win over Chaminade on Jan. 29...lone game of week for the Seasiders...ranked first in rebounding and second in shooting in the conference for the week...shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the floor...also had three assists and two steals.
