HPU's Ray Murdock claims latest PacWest Weekly honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific senior guard/forward Ray Murdock (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 18, for games contested Jan. 11-17.
Murdock led the Sea Warriors to a share of first-place thanks to a 103-94 victory vs. Chaminade on Jan. 14 - HPU's lone game of the week.
He scored 27 points and handed out seven assists while shooting 69.2% (9 for 13) from the floor. He ranked second in scoring and assists, and landed ninth in shooting for the week in the PacWest.
He also was 4 for 4 from the line, made 5 of 6 three-point attempts (83.3%), and tied for the lead league in three-pointers made per game for the week.

of 10 (50.0%) three-point attempts...posted three steals...tied for

Austin Bryan - Dominican (CA) (Fr., 6-4, 190, G, Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee)...helped lead the Penguins to their first PacWest Conference victory in school history on Jan. 14 - a 68-59 win over Grand Canyon...scored 17 points on 7 of 14 (50.0%) shooting...had two blocks, two steals and made a pair of three-pointers.
Virgil Buensuceso - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-9, 170, G, Eagle Rock, CA/Eagle Rock)...scored 19 points, collected five rebounds and shot 72.7% (8 for 11) from the floor in BYU-Hawaii's 87-86 loss on Jan. 16 at Hawai‘i Hilo...ranked seventh in scoring and sixth in shooting in the conference for the week.
Andrew Gipson (right) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-0, 180, G,
Hercules, CA/Salesian)...helped lead the Vulcans to
an 87-86 win over BYU-Hawaii on Jan. 16...scored 16 points and
doled out nine assists in the win...ranked third in assist/turnover
ratio (9.0) for the week in the PacWest...tied for 11th in scoring
and ranked first in handouts for the week...shot 70.0% (7 for 10)
from the floor to tie for seventh in shooting for the week...also
contributed two steals and a three-pointer in the victory.
Mike Helton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-6, 187, G/F, El Paso, TX/Montwood)...helped the Sea Warriors to a 103-94 victory over Chaminade in lone game of the week on Jan. 14...unleashed 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win...tied for fourth in scoring and in rebounding for the week in the conference...handed out five assists in the triumph.

floor...ranked third in scoring, first in rebounding and fifth in
shooting in the PacWest for the week.
Xander McNally (left) - Dominican (CA) (So., 6-2, 175, G, San Francisco, CA/The Branson School)...helped lead the Penguins to their first PacWest Conference victory in school history on Jan. 14 - a 68-59 win over Grand Canyon...tallied 11 points, five assists, five steals and shot 83.3% (5 for 6) from the line...led the PacWest in steal average for the week...tied for third in assist average...shot 60.0% (3 for 5) from the floor.
Andy Palmer - Dixie State (Sr., 6-5, 220, F, St. George, UT/Pine View)...helped the Red Storm post a 2-0 week by averaging 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest...ranked 10th in scoring and tied for 11th in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...shot 64.7% (11 for 17) from the floor to tie for 11th during the week...was perfect from the foul line after making 10 of 10.
Zach Robbins (right) - Dixie State (Fr., 6-9, 210, F/C, Upland,
CA/Upland)...led the PacWest in shooting for the week
(81.8%) after making 9 of 11 field goal attempts...averaged 11.5
points and 5.5 rebounds per game as the Red Storm posted a 2-0
mark...also shared the top slot in the conference in blocks per
game (2.0) for the week.
Zachary Wilde - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 6-7, 200, F, Snohomish, WA/Snohomish)...led the Vulcans to an 87-86 win over BYU-Hawaii on Jan. 16...scored 23 points on 11 of 17 (64.7%) shooting...tied for 11th in shooting and tied for fourth in scoring for the week in the PacWest.
