Austin Bryan Dominican rookie makes Penguins' history with PacWest honor

PHOENIX, AZ - Dominican (CA) freshman guard Austin Bryan (Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

He becomes the first men's basketball player in Penguins' history to receive the honor.

The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 25, for games contested Jan. 18-24.

Bryan led Dominican to a 1-1 week by averaging 30.0 points per game while shooting a remarkable 69.2% (18 for 26) from the floor.

He also connected on 70.0% of his three-point attempts, going 7 for 10, while he was perfect from the foul line (17 for 17).

He ranked first in the PacWest in scoring, foul shooting, and three-pointers made per game (3.5), and was fifth in three-point shooting.

He also finished seventh during the week in field goal percentage.

Mike Helton - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-6, 187, G/F, El Paso, TX/Montwood)...averaged 23.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Sea Warriors...ranked second in scoring for the week in the league...hit 10 of 11 (90.9%) free throw attempts to rank seventh in the league for the week.

C.J. Jackson C.J. Jackson (left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-8, 265, F, Buena Vista, GA/Tri-County)...led the PacWest in rebounding average (16.0) and ranked seventh in scoring (18.0) in a 1-1 week for the Sea Warriors...shot 60.0% (15 for 25) from the floor...connected on 6 of 8 free throw attempts (75.0%) and tied for the league lead in blocks per game (2.0) for the week.

Rory Patterson - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-6, 220, G/F, Logan, UT/Logan)...guided BYU-Hawaii to a thrilling 89-88 last-second win over HPU on Jan. 23...scored 22 points while shooting 62.5% (8 for 13) from the floor...ranked ninth in shooting for the week in the PacWest...ranked fourth in scoring.

Chandler Pearson - Chaminade (Jr., 6-3, 190, G, Huntington, UT/Emery)...scored 17 points and snared 14 rebounds in victory over Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 23 - team's lone game of the week...ranked third in rebounding and tied for eighth in scoring for the week in the PacWest...shot 66.7% (4 for 6) from the floor...was 2 for 2 from beyond the arc.

Anthony Reilly - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-10, 280, G, Valley Center, CA/Valley Center)...scored the game-winning basket with 1/10th of a second remaining in regulation vs. HPU in an 89-88 victory...scored 16 points and handed out six assists in the lone game of the week for the Seasiders...was 7 for 7 from the line...posted a 3.0 assist/turnover ratio.

Justin Smith - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-6, 205, F, Los Angeles, CA/Reseda)...averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in a tough 0-2 week for the Vulcans...ranked sixth in scoring and tied for ninth in rebounding for the week in the conference.

Marques Whippy (right) - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-5, 215, G, Bua, Fiji/LDS)...scored 17 points, collected 15 rebounds and doled out five assists in thrilling 89-88 victory over HPU on Jan. 23...tied for eighth in scoring, ranked second in rebounding, and ranked sixth in assist average for the week in the PacWest...shot 61.5% (8 for 13) in victory over the Sea Warriors...ranked 10th in shooting for the week...tied for the lead league in steal average (5.0) for the week...had all five thefts vs. HPU...posted a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio (6th for the week).

Tom Whitehead - Dixie State (Jr., 6-6, 185, F, St. George, UT/Dixie)...scored 21 points on 58.3% (7 for 12) shooting in 74-72 win over Dominican (CA) on Jan. 18...hit 3 of 6 (50.0%) three-point attempts...blocked two shots.
