Zaruba 2-under, Antelopes 4th at NCAA's

HOUSTON, TX - Grand Canyon University's Donald Zaruba III (photo) shot a 2-under 68 Wednesday as the Antelopes sat tied for fourth after the first round of the NCAA Division II Championships at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston.

 Zaruba (Longmont, Colo.) had six birdies and four bogeys on the 7,158-yard, par-70 course. He is tied for sixth individually.

GCU shot 2-over 282 as a team. Grand Canyon was tied with Western Washington University and South Carolina-Aiken. Clayton State University leads at 7-under 273. Belmont Abbey College is second at 2-under 278, and Indianapolis University is third at even-par 280.

GCU's Terence Daniels (photo) is tied for 19th after shooting par. Daniels had two birdies and two bogeys.

Antelope teammates Ryan Sperry (Ukiah, Calif.) shot 1-over 71, and is tied for 28th. Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, Ariz.) and Brett Beaty (Tucson Sabino) each shot 3-over 73. Sperry had four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. Nakasawa had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey. Beaty had five birdies, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Florida Southern College's Jude Eustaquio shot a 7-under 63 to take the individual lead. Clayton State's Will Wilcox and Grand Valley State's Josh Orler were tied for second at 4-under 66.

The tournament runs through Saturday.
