Hawaii Hilo rallies for PacWest Golf title
Vulcans claim PacWest title
Turtle Bay, HI - The University of Hawaii at Hilo men's golf team battled from behind to claim the 2008 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Tournament on Wednesday at the Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort.
The Vulcans, who started the day three strokes behind Grand Canyon in the team race, shot an aggregate 293 today for a three-day total of 902 on the par 72 course to defeat the defending champion Antelopes by six strokes.
Dixie State overtook Notre Dame de Namur today to move up to third place and drop the Argonauts to fourth.
BYU-Hawaii, the host school for the tournament, claimed the fifth spot while Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade rounded out the field.
The individual title came down to a playoff between eventual winner Zady Ari of UHH and Terence Daniels of Grand Canyon.
The pair began the day in a tie for first place and, after shooting identical 73s, went to a sudden-death playoff on the 18th hole. It took three times playing the hole before Ari chipped in an 80 yarder for an eagle to capture the championship.
