Grand Canyon finishes 15th in the nation

BLAINE, WA - Grand Canyon shot a final round of 312 on Friday to finish 15th overall at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

The four-round event was held at the Loomis Trail Golf Club.

The Antelopes finished 87 strokes over par during the 72-hole event. It marked their fourth straight trip to the national tournament.

Sonoma State (43-over-par) beat CSU San Bernardino in a one-hole playoff to take the team title.

GCU's only senior, Mike Krahe (Flagstaff, AZ/Sinagua), shot a 6-over-par 77, the second-best round of the day for the Antelopes. The Flagstaff native finished the four-day tournament 27-over-par.

Terence Daniels (Smith's, Bermuda/Scottsdale Desert Mountain) had Friday's best round with a 5-over-par 76. Daniels and teammates Tyler Wooldridge (Carefree, AZ/Cactus Shadows) and Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, AZ/Catholic/South Mountain CC) each finished tied for 62nd at 23-over-par.

Wooldridge shot a 78 Friday, while Nakasawa had an 81 and Brandon Hill (Avondale, AZ/Millennium) finished with a 29-over-par 84 for the event.

Gavin Smith, from Indiana University-Pennsylvania, and Kelbi Lee, from Ferris State, tied for the individual honors at 5-over-par. Smith birdied the first playoff hole to take the title.
