Antelopes slip to 9th at NCAA II Nationals
Rough day drops Lopes to 9th at NCAA Championships
BLAINE, WA - Difficulty on the Loomis Trail Golf Club's back nine led to Grand Canyon University's men's golf team dropping from sixth to ninth place on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Blaine, WA.The Lopes were tied for sixth after Tuesday's first round, but find themselves ninth after shooting a 21-over-par 305. They are 38-over-par for two rounds and 23 strokes behind leader Barry.
The championship is a four-day, 72-hole tournament.
After going 3-under-par through the first nine holes, Grand Canyon's No. 1 player Terence Daniels (Smith's, Bermuda/Desert Mountain) finished Wednesday with a 2-over-par 73. It was the Antelopes best round of the day.
Senior Mike Krahe (Flagstaff, AZ/Sinagua) bounced back from a rough first day with a 5-over-par 76. His 2-over-par back nine was the best of any Lope golfer. Bentley Nakasawa (Yuma, AZ/Catholic) and Tyler Wooldridge (Carefree, AZ/Cactus Shadows) each shot 7-over-par 78.
Brandon Hill (Avondale, AZ/Millennium) was in seventh place overall coming into the second round, but finished with an 8-over-par 79. He was 6-over-par on the back nine. He still has the best two-day total (72-79 - 151) for the Antelopes and is tied for 46th.
