BELMONT, CA - The Notre Dame de Namur men's soccer team
set school history by making it to the NCAA Tournament in their
first year of eligibility in their transition back to the Division
II level.
The Argos finished the year with a 14-3-3 record and won the Pacific West Conference crown with a 9-1-2 record in league play.
NDNU earned the No. 4 seed in the West Region and will head to Southern California to take on No. 1 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday night at 7 pm. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in the sport of men's soccer.
The Argos head the Regional with a 13-1-2 record in their final 16 games while the Toros currently rank fourth in the nation with a 16-2-4 record. Cal State Dominguez Hills have been to four straight NCAA II Tournaments with their best finish coming in 2005 when they reached the quarterfinals.
"We are extremely excited about participating in the NCAA Tournament," Head Coach Lance Thompson said. "The fact that it is our first year being eligible makes it a great accomplishment. We know that we have a tough matchup ahead with CSU Dominguez Hills. They have a great history and we are looking forward to the challenge."
Sonoma State (No. 2 seed) and Cal State Los Angeles (No. 3 seed) will square off in the first game on Thursday at 4 pm with the winners playing for the Regional Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m.
