Albert Escovar paces GCU, claims PacWest weekly honor

in 5-0 win vs. Chaminade last Thursday...recorded an assist in 1-1
tie vs. #4 Seattle Pacific on Saturday.
Grand Canyon takes early lead in PacWest race
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Grand Canyon University has grabbed the early lead in the race for the 2007 PacWest men's soccer title by winning its first two league games of the season. The Antelopes, who shared the crown last year with NDNU, blanked BYU-Hawai‘i 3-0 on September 18 and shut out Chaminade 5-0 on September 20.
GCU registered a 2-0-1 week after drawing with Seattle Pacific for the second time this year. Seattle Pacific has been ranked in the Top 10 in the nation all season.
Chaminade set a school record by scoring nine goals in a 9-2 pounding of Southwestern on September 21. One day later, the Silverswords nipped Embry-Riddle 1-0, giving CUH its first two victories of the season.
Hawai‘i Pacific has a pair of players leading the nation in points and assists per game. Freshman Adam Rieke (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) is averaging 3.00 points per contest to rank first in the nation, while senior Thimo Langner (Wiesbaden, Germany) leads the country in assists per contest (1.00).
The Sea Warriors finally return to action this Sunday against Hawai‘i Hilo as both clubs kicked off their PacWest seasons. Neither team has played since competing in the Hawai‘i Cup Challenge on September 8.
BYU-Hawai‘i completed one of the more rugged stretches in Division II on Tuesday afternoon with a tough 2-0 loss at Humboldt State. The Seasiders posted a 1-5 mark on the Mainland, picking up its one victory at NDNU.
NDNU split a pair of games last week, defeating Chaminade in the PacWest opener 2-0.
