Hawai‘i Hilo's Drew Geis claims PacWest Player of the Week award

Drew Geis named PacWest Men's Soccer Player of the Week

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo junior forward Drew Geis (Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) scored three times during the opening week of the season to garner the first Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week award of 2008.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, on Monday, Sept., 8 and is for games played from Aug. 28 through Sept. 7.

Geis led the league in scoring with seven points and in goals with three, including a pair of game-winners for the Vulcans.

Hawai‘i Hilo has opened the year with a 3-1 overall mark.

 

 

PacWest Weekly Top 10 Men's Soccer Honor Roll

Zac Hales - Dixie State (Fr., M, 5-8, 170, St. George, UT/Dixie)...scored one goal and added an assist in the team's first game in school history...registered the first assist in men's soccer.

George Ichimaru (photo) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., M, 5-7, 150, Volcano, HI/Waiakea)...scored the game-winning goal vs. Academy of Art in overtime on Sept. 1...also had an assist in the contest for a three-point week.

Dane Kaylor - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., GK, 6-1, Huntington Beach, CA/Edison)...posted a 1-1-0 week in net after boasting a 0.50 goals against average...allowed one goal in 180 minutes of action...turned in an .875 save percentage by halting 7 of 8 shots on goal.

Alvaro Lula - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., GK, 6-1, 185, Sao Paulo, Brazil)...recorded the lone shutout victory by a PacWest team this year vs. Academy of Art on Sept. 1...registered three saves in the overtime win.

Carlos Lopez - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., F, 5-7, Huntington, CA/Bell)...recorded three points in four games for the Vulcans to start the year...had a goal and an assist vs. the Academy of Art on Sept. 5.

Carlos Lopez - Notre Dame de Namur (Sr., M, 5-6, Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica)...scored the game-winning goal vs. Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 1...NDNU won the game 2-0.

David Meherg (photo) - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., GK, 6-2, Bremerton, WA/Olympia)...turned in a 2-0-1 mark to start his career with the Argos...posted a 0.80 goals against average...recorded eight saves in his five appearances.

Ivan Mercado - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., GK, 6-0, 175, Paramount, CA/Century)...he registered a 2-0-0 week in net after posting a 1.00 goals against average...recorded 17 saves to lead the league for the week...also had an .895 save percentage that was tops in the conference.

Cristobol Montes - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., M/F, 5-9, Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy)...posted five points on the week after scoring two goals and adding an assist...averaged 1.00 points per game...was one of two players in the PacWest to score more than one goal during the week...also had one game-winner.

Bryan Neal - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., M, 5-10, 195, Yakima, WA/Eisenhower)...scored the game-winning goal vs. Academy of Art in overtime on Sept. 1.
