Cristobal Montes earns PacWest weekly honor again

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Notre Dame de Namur freshman midfielder/forward Cristobal Montes (Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy) led the Argos to a 3-0-0 week and the PacWest Championship, earning the final Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week award for 2008.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 10, for games played from Nov. 3-9.

Montes finished the week with six points on three goals, including a pair of game-winners. He drilled a penalty kick in the second half vs. Hawai‘i Hilo on Nov. 3 to give the Argos a 2-1 victory. He also scored a goal on Nov. 5 in a 7-0 thrashing of Chaminade and punched home what would be the deciding goal on Nov. 7 in a 3-0 blanking of BYU-Hawaii.

PacWest Men's Weekly Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Nathan Carlson - Notre Dame de Namur (So., M, 5-7, Henderson, NV/Coronado)...finished the week with four points on a goal and two assists...helped lead NDNU to the PacWest title...tallied the insurance goal in win over BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 7...had two assists in 7-0 victory vs. Chaminade on Nov. 5.

Frank Carotenuto - Grand Canyon (Jr., GK, 5-10, 180, Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral)...posted a 2-1 record in Hawai‘i while playing all 270 minutes...recorded a 0.33 goals against average during trip...had 13 saves and two shutouts - vs. Chaminade on Nov. 3 and BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 5.

Drew Geis - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., F, 6-0, Kapolei, HI/Kapolei)...tallied game-winning goal vs. Dixie State on Nov. 7 in 5-3 victory...also scored game's first goal in a 2-1 loss vs. NDNU on Nov. 3...finished week with four points on two goals.

Matheau Hall - Grand Canyon (Sr., M, 5-7, 140, Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown)...averaged 2.00 points per game in three road contests in Hawai‘i...totaled six points on the week...points came on three goals...scored pair of goals at Chaminade on Nov. 3...added insurance goal in 2-0 victory at BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 5.

Oswaldo Hernandez - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., D, 6-2, Shafter, CA/Liberty)...scored two goals on penalty kicks in 3-0-0 week for NDNU...helped lead Argos to PacWest title...tallied game-tying goal vs. Hawai‘i Hilo...NDNU eventually won 2-1.

David Meherg - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., GK, 6-2, Bremerton, WA/Olympia)...recorded a 2-0-0 week for the Argos while playing in the final 45 minutes of each contest...NDNU finished the week 3-0-0 and captured the PacWest title...produced a 0.00 goals against average in 135 minutes of action...recorded five saves.

Nick Sykes - Grand Canyon (Fr., F/M, 6-0, 180, Meridian, ID/Mountain View)...scored a pair of game-winning goals during GCU's road trip to Hawai‘i...finished the week with five points on two goals and one assist...scored game-winners in 5-0 blanking of Chaminade on Nov. 3 and 2-0 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Nov. 5.

James Terry - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., M, 6-0, Honolulu, HI/Saint Louis)...led the Sea Warriors with a six-point week on two goals and two assists...recorded two goals and an assist in 3-1 victory over Dixie State on Nov. 5...set up game-winning goal in 1-0 victory over GCU on Nov. 7.

Matt Terry - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., GK, 6-0, Honolulu, HI/Saint Louis)...led the Sea Warriors to a 2-0-0 week by earning both victories in net...halted six of seven shots faced...posted a 1-0 shutout vs. GCU on Nov. 7...also earned a 3-1 win vs. Dixie State on Nov. 5.

Kevin Young - Dixie State (Fr., F, 5-8, 175, Salt Lake City, UT/Kearns)...recorded five points in 0-3-0 week...scored two goals and added an assist...had goal and an assist in 5-3 loss at UHH on Nov. 7...also scored game-tying goal on Nov. 5 against HPU...Dixie State eventually lost 3-1.
