Sheldon Steenhuis earns PacWest honor
Sheldon Steenhuis claims PacWest weekly award
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Notre Dame de Namur
sophomore goalkeeper Sheldon Steenhuis (Morgan Hill,
CA/Live Oak) posted a 2-0 mark in net to earn the
Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week award.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, on Monday, Sept., 15 and is for games played from Sept. 7-14.
Steenhuis had five saves and a 0.62 goals against average while picking up key regional victories over Cal State Stanislaus and Sonoma State. He played 144:58 in net to claim both wins.

Luis Astorga - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., F, 5-9, Las Vegas, NV/Desert Pines)...recorded a goal and an assist for three points to help lead the Argos to a 2-0-0 week.
Mark Bennett - Notre Dame de Namur (Sr., M, 6-1, Reading, UK)...punched in game-winning goal vs. Sonoma State in overtime on Sept. 12.
Dustin Daley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., M, 5-10, Brea, CA/Brea Olinda)...registered the game-winning goal in overtime vs. Hawai‘i Pacific on Sept. 13 to give the Vulcans the Hawaii Challenge Cup title.
Cory Harding - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., D, 6-1, Graham, WA/Bethel)...scored twice in the Sea Warriors' 2-0 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 12 in the semifinals of the Hawaii Cup Challenge.
Kris Lousbury - Chaminade (Jr., GK, 6-3, Phoenix, AZ/Mount Pointe)...registered a 1-1 week with 14 saves and a 1.50 goals against average...halted seven of eight shots on net vs. BYU-Hawaii to claim the victory.
Ivan Mercado - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., GK, 6-0, 175, Paramount, CA/Century)...posted a 0.67 goals against average with four saves in 135:00 minutes over two games...pitched a shutout vs. Chaminade on Sept. 12 in the Hawaii Challenge Cup...also had an .800 save percentage.
Cristobal Montes - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., M/F, 5-9, Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy)...scored game-winning goal vs. Cal State San Bernardino on Sept. 7 in 2-1 NDNU victory.
Nyle Ortiz - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., M, 5-11, Layton, UT/Layton)...registered the game-winning goal vs. Chaminade on Sept. 12 in semifinals of the Hawaii Challenge Cup.
Nick Smith - Chaminade (Jr., M, 5-10, 195, Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne)...punched in two goals for four points on the week...scored twice vs. BYU-Hawaii in 2-1 Silversword victory on Sept. 13...tallied first goal on a penalty kick...scored game-winner in the 72nd minute.
Matt Terry - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., GK, 6-0, Honolulu, HI/Saint Louis)...posted a 0.99 goals against average in a 1-1 week for the Sea Warriors...recorded a shutout vs. BYU-Hawaii on Sept. 12 in the semifinals of the Hawaii Cup Challenge.
