GCU rookie earns Player of the Week

PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon freshman forward Kyle Ciliento (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for 2009.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Aug. 31, for games played Aug. 27-30.

Ciliento led the PacWest in goals and scoring after tallying twice and totaling four points. He scored both goals, including the game-winner, in a 2-1 victory over reigning Division II National Champion Cal St. Dominguez Hills in the season opener on Aug. 29.

Chance Bukoski - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 6-0, 185, F, Lihue, HI/Kapaa - left photo)...tallied the game-winning goal for HPU vs. Upper Iowa on Aug. 28...Sea Warriors won convincingly 4-0.

Kainoa Kahui - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 6-0, 185, D, Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha Schools)...recorded a goal and an assist for a total of three points in the Sea Warriors 4-0 blanking of Upper Iowa on Aug. 28.

Richard Luna - Academy of Art (So., 5-10, 160, M, South San Francisco, CA/South San Francisco)...recorded a pair of assists in 3-2 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Aug. 29.

Kyle Mannschreck - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-10, 167, M/D, Minden, NV/Douglas)...tallied game-winning goal vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay on Aug. 29 in 3-2 Urban Knight victory.

Ivan Mercado - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-7, 170, GK, Paramount, CA/Century)...recorded eight saves and kept the Vulcans close during a tough 2-1 loss at Cal State Los Angeles on Aug. 29...posted an .800 save percentage after stopping 8 of 10 shots on net.

Ben Paneccasio - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-3, 183, GK, Sydney, Australia/Rosenban K College)...halted four of five shots on net in 2-1 victory over 2008 NCAA II National Champion Cal St. Dominguez Hills...had an .800 save percentage in the contest.

Darren Smith - Chaminade (Jr., 6-3, 218, GK, Mililani, HI/Mililani - photo right)...halted all four shots flung his way in a season-opening shutout victory by the Silverswords... Chaminade defeated Upper Iowa 1-0.

Matt Terry - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-0, 185, M, Honolulu, HI/Saint Louis School)...pitched a shutout vs. Upper Iowa on Aug. 28 in 4-0 Sea Warrior win...repelled both shots on goal fired his way.

Charles Thompson - Chaminade (Sr., 5-7, 145, F/M, Waimea, HI/Waimea)...scored game-winning goal vs. Upper Iowa on Aug. 29 in a 1-0 Chaminade victory.

Cole Travis - NDNU (So., 5-9, 155, M, Chimacum, WA/Chimacum)...recorded a goal and an assist for three points in two games for the Argos.
