Grand Canyon clinches share of PacWest men's soccer championship

PHOENIX, AZ - The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team clinched a share of its third Pacific West Conference title in four years on Thursday following a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Notre Dame de Namur.

The tie pushed the Antelopes to 32 points on the season with a 10-1-2 conference mark. Grand Canyon is 13-3-3 on the year.

The Antelopes are three points ahead of both NDNU and Hawai‘i Pacific with one game left on each team's schedule. Grand Canyon can clinch the title outright on Saturday with a win or a tie vs. the Urban Knights of the Academy of Art who are 1-12 in conference play this year.

If the Antelopes lose, they also would take sole possession of the PacWest Championship with a loss or tie by both HPU and NDNU.

Hawai‘i Pacific and NDNU could claim a share of the conference championship if Grand Canyon falls to Academy of Art on Saturday. The Sea Warriors would need to beat BYU-Hawaii at home while the Argos would have to knock off Dixie State on the road.

The conference title is the third in four years for Grand Canyon since the PacWest started men's soccer competition in 2006. The Antelopes shared the first title with NDNU in 2006 before claiming the top honors alone in 2007. Last year NDNU won the PacWest Championship.
