Pineda makes history, earns PacWest Weekly honor

PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art junior forward Mario Pineda (Madera, CA/Madera) became the first Urban Knight in any sport to earn Pacific West Conference Player of the Week honors.

Pineda scored a natural hat-trick on Sept. 1 at Pacific Union to lead AAU to a 3-1 victory. He finished the week with three goals and six points to claim the PacWest Men's Soccer Player of the Week award.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for games played Aug. 31-Sept. 6.

Pineda tallied the game's first goal in the opening half before striking twice early in the second half to give AAU a 3-0 lead.

PacWest Men's Soccer Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Brazer Bozlak - Academy of Art (Fr., 6-3, 170, F, Galve, Sweden/Galve Borgarskolan)...posted Urban Knights' lone goal in a 4-1 loss vs. Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 5.

Kyle Ciliento (right) - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-10, 168, F, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle)...tallied GCU's lone goal of the week on Sept. 5 in a 2-1 double-overtime loss vs. Sonoma State...goal tied the game 1-1 and forced overtime.

Go Eto - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-8, 155, F, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Rancho Palos Verdes)...scored the Vulcan's lone goal in a 3-1 loss vs. Cal State San Bernardino on Sept. 2.

Timothy Glick - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-11, 165, M, Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby)...re-corded three points in three tough losses for the Vulcans last week...scored a goal vs. Westmont on Sept. 5...had an assist vs. UC San Diego on Aug. 31.

Kody Hunter - Dixie State (Fr., 5-9, 150, D/M, Hooper, UT/Fremont)...set up Jordan Roylance's game-winning goal with just 20 seconds left in the opening half vs. Mesa State on Sept. 6...had one assist for one point during the week.

Tyler McAninch - Dixie State (Fr., 6-6, 210, GK, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...posted a 1-1 week in net for the Red Storm...registered a 1.80 goals against average and one shutout in 180 minutes of action over two games...had 11 saves during the week, including four vs. Mesa State.

Logan Montenegro - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-8, 170, F/M, Whittier, CA/Santa Fe)...finished the week with four points on two goals despite an 0-3 record for the Vulcans...scored both goals in 3-2 loss at UC San Diego on Aug. 31.

Cristobal Montes (right) - Notre Dame de Namur (So., 5-9, 150, F, Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy)...tallied NDNU's lone goal of the week in a tough double-overtime loss vs. UC San Diego on Sept. 4.

Ben Paneccasio - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-3, 183, GK, Sydney, Australia/Rosenban K College)... posted a 0-1-1 record for the week with a 0.84 goals against average, one shutout and an .857 save percentage...halted 12 of 14 shots on net...played 215:08 in goal over two games...both games he played went to double-overtime...dropped a 2-1 decision at Sonoma State by the score of 2-1 on Sept. 5...battled UC San Diego to a 0-0 draw on Sept. 6.

Jordan Roylance - Dixie State (Fr., 5-9, 150, F, Smithfield, UT/Sky View)...scored a pair of goals in two games for the Red Storm...tallied a game-winning goal in 1-0 win over Mesa State on Sept. 6...also scored team's lone goal in 3-1 loss at Ft. Lewis on Sept. 4...posted four points for the week.
