Amos Maru earns PacWest Runner of the Week honors

AAU's Amos Maru earns PacWest weekly award

PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art sophomore Amos Maru (Nandi Hills, Kenya) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Sept. 21, for races contested on Sept. 19.

Maru captured the 2009 Sundodger Cross Country 8K race held in Washington on Sept. 19. He completed the course in 24:52.34 and led the Urban Knights to the top finish among eligible four-year schools - second among all entries.

Stefano Barbis Rochabrun (right) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 5-10, Hilo, HI/Hilo)...placed third overall and first among Vulcan runners at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...led UHH to a third-place finish...covered the 5K course in a time of 16:49.65.

Jon Cleghorn - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 6-2, 165, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada/Fredericton)...recorded a time of 17:01.95 on the 5K course...helped HPU take second at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...finished seventh overall.

Spencer Deavila - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-9, 138, Mesa, AZ/Highland)...recorded a time of 16:53.35 on the 5K course at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...helped BYU-Hawaii finish first in the event...wound up fifth in the race.

Matthew Gulden - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-2, 160, Simi Valley, CA/Royal)...posted a mark of 16:55.15 on the 5K course at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...helped BYU-Hawaii finish first in the event....finished sixth overall.

Chris Lewis - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-10, 135, Peoria, AZ/Raymond S. Kellis)...placed 28th overall and first among Antelope competitors at the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State on Sept. 19...covered the 8K course in a time of 27:50.

Dany Malley (left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-7, 140, Mississaugua, Ontario, Canada/St. Famille Secondary)...captured the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...finished the 5K course in a time of 16:39.22...led HPU to a second-place finish.

Daveson Marindich - Academy of Art (So., 5-9, 120, Eldoret, Kenya)...finished sixth overall at the 2009 Sundodger Cross Country Meet in Washington on Sept. 19...helped AAU take second overall and first among eligible four-year institutions...registered a time of 25:01.48 on the 8K course.

Brendan McMaster (right) - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-11, 145, Tempe, AZ/Corona Del Sol)...placed second at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...led BYU-Hawaii to a first-place finish...covered the 5K course in a time of 16:44.83.

Simon Mutai - Academy of Art (So., 5-7, 119, Nakuru, Kenya)...finished 31st overall out of 211 runners at the 2009 Sundodger Cross Country Meet in Washington on Sept. 19...helped AAU take second overall and first among eligible four-year institutions...had a time of 26:03.06 on the 8K course.

Kevin Wright - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-9, 130, Mississaugua, Ontario, Canada/Lorne Park Secondary)...finished fourth overall and second among Sea Warrior runners at the 2009 Hawai‘i Big Wave at Kaneohe, HI, on Sept. 19...finished the 5K course in a time of 16:50.58...helped HPU to a second-place finish.
