Four-game sweep lands HPU's Plunkett, Kessell PacWest awards

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific seniors Krystal Plunkett (Pearl City, HI/Pear City) and Courtney Kessell (Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) have been chosen the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after leading the Sea Warriors to a four-game, four-shutout wee kend vs. Chaminade.

Player of the Week (April 13-19) - Krystal Plunkett (left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-6, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) - batted .846 in four starts vs. Chaminade over the weekend...was 11 for 13 with two doubles, one home run and seven RBI...scored four times...had a 1.231 slugging rate and an .846 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week (April 13-19) - Courtney Kessell (right) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., P, R/R, 5-6, Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) - recorded a 2-0 mark in two starts vs. Chaminade...tossed two complete-game shutouts...allowed just five singles and two walks in 11 innings of work...struck out six...permitted a .135 batting average.

Tajia Acierto - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-2, Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) - batted .400 in four starts...went 4 for 10 with five runs scored and four RBI...doubled once...walked and stole a base...had a sacrifice bunt...recorded a .500 slugging average and a .455 on-base rate.

Cassie Avila (right) - NDNU (Jr., IF, R/R, 5-2, Half Moon Bay, CA/H.S. not available) - hit .571 in five starts...was 8 for 14 with a run and a double...walked twice...had a .643 slugging rate and a .625 on-base percentage.

Tana Holtorf - Grand Canyon (Sr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) - batted .545 in three starts...was 6 for 11 with a run and five RBI...registered a .545 slugging rate and a .545 on-base mark.

Carli Leary - NDNU (Jr., C, R/R, 5-7, Oakmont, CA/H.S Not Available) - batted .444 with four runs scored and three RBI...was 8 for 18 with three doubles and a home run...walked once...registered a .778 slugging average and a .474 on-base rate.

Sherise Musquiz - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., P, R/R, 6-0, Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) - recorded a 2-0 week with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances...scattered se ven hits and struck out five over eight innings...part of two combined shutouts.

Nicole Riviera - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., INF, R/R, 5-3, Hilo, HI/Waiakea) - batted .455 in four starts...was 5 for 11 with four runs scored, two doubles and five RBI...posted a .636 slugging rate and a .455 on-base mark.

Ciera Senas (right) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-4, Wahiawa, HI/Mililani) - batted .429 in four starts...was 6 for 14 with seven runs scored, one double and three RBI...walked once...registered a .500 slugging rate and a .467 on-base mark.

Casey Sugihara - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., IF, L/R, 5-2, Mililani, HI/Mililani) - hit .462 in four starts...went 6 for 13 with six runs scored, a double, two triples and four RBI...recorded an .846 slugging average and a .500 on-base rate...reached base on a hit by pitch...dropped a sacrifice bunt.

Samantha Tiefenthaler - Grand Canyon (Jr., P, R/R, 5-7, Prescott Valley, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain) - recorded a 1-0 record in one relief appearance...tossed seven innings, striking out one and scattering seven hits...allowed one earned run and a 1.00 ERA...also hit .444 in three starts, going 4 for 9 with two runs scored and four RBI...doubled and homered...walked twice...posted an .889 slugging average and a .545 on-base rate.

Yasmeen Watkins (left) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 2B, R/R, 5-6, Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope) - hit .364 in three starts for the Antelopes...went 4 for 11 with a run and four RBI...doubled twice and homered once...had an .818 slugging average and a .364 on-base rate.
