HPU's Kim, Musquiz earn weekly honors
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific rookie Maile Kim (Salinas, CA/Notre Dame) was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, while HPU junior Sherise Musquiz (Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) earned the Pitcher of the Week award as the latest rounds of weekly accolades were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ.
Player of the Week (March 30-April 5) (right) - Maile Kim -
Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., UT, R/R, 5-3, Salinas, CA/Notre Dame)
- batted .463 in 12 starts, going 19 for 41 with 13
runs scored...drove in 14 runs...slammed five homers...doubled
twice...walked four times...had a .511 on-base percentage and an
.878 slugging rate.
Pitcher of the Week (March 30-April 5) (left) - Sherise Musquiz - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., P, R/R, 6-0, Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) - recorded a 4-2 week with two saves...earned a spot on the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team...posted a 1.97 ERA in eight appearances and four starts...tossed three complete games and one shutout...struck out 15.

Bailie Hicken (left) - Dixie State (Fr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Cedar
Hills, UT/Lone Peak) - hit .419 by going 13 for 31
with nine runs scored and one RBI...walked three times...converted
10 of 11 stolen base attempts...dropped a pair of sacrifice
bunts...had a .419 slugging mark and a .471 on-base average.
Lauren Holmes - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., OF, L/L, 5-3, Simi Valley, CA/Grace Brethren) - hit .600 in nine starts...was 15 for 25 with six runs scored, two doubles and two RBI...walked three times...posted a .680 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage...named to the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.
Randi Johns (right) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 1B, R/R, 5-7, Waddell,
AZ/Millennium) - batted .429 with 14 RBI and 10 runs
scored...was 12 for 28 at the plate with three doubles and three
homers...walked eight times and reached base on one HBP...had an
.857 slugging rate and a .568 on-base mark...named to the
Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.
Jessie Kaonohi - Dixie State (Sr., P, R/R, 5-7, Lancaster, CA/Antelope Valley) - posted a 2-0 week with a 0.00 earned run average in four appearances...recorded two complete games in two starts, including a shutout...struck out 11 in 16.2 innings of work...opponents managed just a .136 batting average.
Carli Leary - NDNU (Jr., C, R/R, 5-7, Oakmont, CA/H.S Not Available) - hit .441 in 12 starts by going 15 for 34...scored two runs, drove in four others and smashed a home run...had three doubles...walked three times and hit two sacrifice flys...registered a .618 slugging mark and a .462 on-base rate.
Tracy Lubken - Grand Canyon (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-4, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) - batted .417 in 10 starts for the Antelopes...went 15 for 36 with nine runs scored and four home runs...doubled once, walked twice...recorded a .778 slugging rate and a .447 on-base percentage...had a sacrifice hit.
Ashley McFarland - Dixie State (Fr., IF, R/R, 5-9, Layton, UT/Layton) - batted .407 in 10 starts after going 11 for 27 with seven runs scored and five RBI...ripped five doubles and crashed one home run...walked six times...was 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts...had a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt...registered a .500 on-base average and a .704 slugging mark.
Kristine Mihara - Chaminade (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-5, Pepe‘ekeo, HI/Kamehameha-Hawaii) - hit .423 in eight starts by going 11 for 26 with two runs scored and three doubles...had eight RBI...walked once...had a .538 slugging rate and a .444 on-base mark.
Casey Sugihara - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., IF, L/R, 5-2, Mililani, HI/Mililani) - batted .436 in 12 starts...went 17 for 39 with nine runs scored and eight RBI...doubled twice...walked four times and reached base twice on HBP...had a .487 slugging rate and a .511 on-base percentage...had a pair of sacrifice hits.
Brittney Wojtowicz - Grand Canyon (So., 3B/1B, R/R, 5-11, Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) - batted .444 in 10 starts...went 12 for 27 with four runs scored with three doubles...recorded five RBI...walked three times...posted a .500 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging average...had three sacrifice bunts.
