GCU's Watkins, UHH's Waracka claim PacWest honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Grant Canyon senior 2B Yasmeen Watkins (Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope) and Hawai‘i Hilo freshman Amber Waracka (Kahuluu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) have been chosen the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Player of the Week (April 20-26) - Yasmeen Watkins (left) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 2B, R/R, 5-6, Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope) - hit .667 in three starts for the Antelopes...went 6 for 9 with four runs scored and eight RBI...doubled once and smashed a pair of home runs...had a 1.444 slugging average and a .700 on-base rate...walked once.

Pitcher of the Week (April 20-26) - Amber Waracka (right) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., P, R/R, 5-9, Kahuluu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) - posted a 2-0 week by tossing a pair of complete-game victories vs. Chaminade...permitted no earned runs and tossed one shutout...scattered 10 hits over 14 innings...struck out 12 and permitted a .200 batting average...did not allow an extra-base hit.

Kelli Bridges - Grand Canyon (Jr., SS, R/R, 5-4, Coeur d'Alene, ID/Lake City) - batted 375 in three starts for the Antelopes...went 3 for 8 with two runs scored...slammed a home run...drove in three runs...had a .375 on-base average and a .750 slugging rate.

Sierra Green (left) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-5, Longmont, CO/Longmont) - batted .571 in four starts...went 8 for 14 with five runs scored, two doubles, a home run and five RBI...posted a .571 on-base percentage and a .929 slugging rate.

Lauren Holmes - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., OF, L/L, 5-3, Simi Valley, CA/Grace Brethren) - batted 444 going 4 for 9 with five runs scored and one RBI...had a .444 slugging average and a 444 on-base rate...dropped a sacrifice bunt...was 2 for 2 in stolen base attempts.

Tracy Lubken - Grand Canyon (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-4, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) - hit .444 in three starts for the Antelopes...was 4 for 9 with three runs scored and one RBI...also walked twice...recorded a .444 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base rate.

Christina Pedroza - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., P, R/R, 5-6, La Mirada, CA/La Mirada) - tossed a five-inning, complete-game shutout victory vs. Chaminade...scattered four hits and struck out two...permitted a .222 batting average...had a 0.00 ERA for the week...also hit .333 in three starts...went 2 for 6 with three runs scored, three RBI, one double and a walk...dropped two sacrifice bunts...had a 500 slugging average and a .429 on-base percentage.

Erika Reay - Grand Canyon (Jr., C, R/R, 5-6, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) - hit .444 in three starts, going 4 for 9 with three runs scored...posted a .444 slugging mark and a 444 on-base rate.

Aisha Sueda - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., IF, R/R, 5-4, Hilo, HI/Hilo) - batted .600 in four starts vs. Chaminade...went 6 for 10 with four runs scored , a double, a triple and two RBI...recorded a .900 slugging average and a .714 on-base rate...reached base four times after being hit by a pitch.

Amanda Tellez - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., IF, R/R, 5-2, Gilroy, CA/Gilroy) - batted .600 in three games vs. Chaminade...went 3 for 5 with two RBI...had a sacrifice bunt...recorded a .600 slugging average and a .600 on-base rate.

Samantha Tiefenthaler - Grand Canyon (Jr., P, R/R, 5-7, Prescott Valley, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain) - hit 556 in three starts by going 5 for 9...scored three times, drove in seven, and belted three homers...had a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base rate.
