Weisskopf, Waracka claim PacWest weekly awards
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo swept the Pacific West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards thanks to outstanding performances from junior Sarah Weisskopf (Kapolei, HI/Punahou) and rookie hurler Amber Waracka (Kahuluu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama).
Player of the Week (March 9-15) - Sarah Weisskopf
(photo right) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., P, R/R, 5-6, Kapolei,
HI/Punahou) - had a terrific week at the plate and on
the mound...hit .389 in six starts for the Vulcans...led the
PacWest in RBI for the week with seven...went 7 for 18 with three
runs scored, a triple and a home run...walked twice
...registered a .667 slugging rate and a .450 on-base
mark...posted a 2-1 record on the mound...recorded a 1.29 ERA in
16.1 innings of work...recorded two complete games...struck out
four, walked two, and allowed just three earned runs.
Pitcher of the Week (March 9-15) - Amber Waracka (photo left) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., P, R/R, 5-9, Kahuluu, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) - recorded a 3-0 week without allowing an earned run...tossed three complete-game shutouts...struck out 23 over 19 innings of work...permitted just six hits and a .098 batting average...walked two.
PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Tajia Acierto - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-2, Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) - hit .500 in four starts for the Sea Warriors...was 7 for 14 with three runs scored, three doubles, one homer and five RBI...posted a .929 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base mark...2 for 2 in stolen base attempts...reached base once after being hit by a pitch.
Sierra Green (photo) - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-5,
Longmont, CO/Longmont) - batted .467 in six games and
five starts...went 7 for 15 with five runs scored, a double and
three walks...was 3 for 3 in stolen base attempts...hit a sacrifice
fly and a sacrifice bunt...posted a .526 on-base percentage and a
.533 slugging rate.
Courtney Kessell - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., P, R/R, 5-6, Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) - posted a 2-0 record in two starts with one shutout...registered a 1.40 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 15 innings of action...did not issue a walk...opponents hit .170.
Maile Kim - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., UT, R/R, 5-3, Salinas, CA/Notre Dame) - batted .462 in four starts, going 6 for 13 with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBI...walked twice...registered a .615 slugging rate and a .533 on-base mark.
Kasy‘e Lalau (photo) - Chaminade (So., P, R/R, 5-11,
Stutggart, Germany) - recorded a 2-0 record with a
0.88 earned run average in 16 innings of work...tossed two complete
games and one shutout...struck out four and walked one.
Angel Mahaulu - Chaminade (Fr., IF, R/R, 5-8, Waianae, HI/Kamehameha-Hawaii) - hit .500 in four games for the Silverswords...was 6 for 12 with three runs scored, a double, home run and two RBI...walked twice...posted an .833 slugging rate and a .571 on-base mark.
Kelsey Mendenhall - Dixie State (Fr., 3B/SS, R/R, 5-4, Tooele, UT/Tooele) - went 4 for 8 in doubleheader sweep of BYU-Hawaii on March 14...scored three runs, doubled twice and drove in two runs...recorded a .750 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark.
Kristine Mihara - Chaminade (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-5, Pepe‘ekeo, HI/Kamehameha-Hawaii) - hit .538 in four starts by going 7 for 13...drove in three runs...scored once...had both a .538 on-base mark and slugging average.
Haley Schumers - Dixie State (Sr., P/3B, R/R, 5-7, Plain City,
UT/Fremont) - recorded a complete-game victory over
BYU-Hawaii on March 14...allowed one earned run, five hits and two
walks while striking out five in seven innings...hit .600 at the
plate in two games...was 3 for 5 with two runs, one RBI, two walks
and a .600 slugging mark...had a .714 on-base percentage.
Chasity Senas - Chaminade (So., OF, R/R, 5-5, Wahiawa, HI/Mililani) - batted .500 in four games for the Silverswords...was 6 for 12 with a run and three RBI...produced two sacrifice bunts and a sacrifice fly...recorded a .500 slugging rate and a .462 on-base mark.
