Dixie State's Schumers, UHH's Pedroza earn weekly honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Dixie State senior 3B/P Haley Schumers (Plain City, UT/Fremont) was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, while University of Hawai‘i Hilo sophomore Christina Pedroza (La Mirada, CA/La Mirada) earned the PacWest Pitcher of the Week a ward.

The honor was announced on March 4 by the PacWest media office in Queen Creek, AZ.

Player of the Week (Feb. 23-March 1) - Haley Schumers - Dixie State (Sr., P/3B, R/R, 5-7, Plain City, UT/Fremont) - posted 2-0 mark with complete-game win over Division I Southern Utah...allowed just three earned runs over 8.2 innings of work during the week (2.42 ERA)...struck out 12...opponents hit .188...hit .556 in six starts, going 10 for 18 with eight runs and 11 RBI...doubled four times, tripled once and bashed a homer...posted a 1.056 slugging rate and a .591 on-base mark.

Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 23-March 1) - Christina Pedroza - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., R/R, 5-6, La Mirada, CA/La Mirada) - posted a 2-1 week including a pair of shutout victories over Lock Haven University - the #1 team in Division II...LHU finished third in D-II last year, second in 2007 and won the national championship in 2006...posted a 0.32 ERA in four appearances...had three complete games...allowed just 10 hits while striking out 10 batters in 22 innings of work...permitted one earned run and two walks...teams hit just .127 against her...hit .421 at the plate, going 8 for 19 with three doubles, two RBI and one run scored.


PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Lauren Folta - Dixie State (Fr., P, R/R, 5-5, Erda, UT/Tooele) - posted a 2-0 record in two starts for the Red Storm...tossed 13 innings of action over three appearances...struck out eight and allowed just three earned runs for a 1.62 ERA...allowed a .222 batting average.

Shantae Hunter - Dixie State (Jr., 2B, R/R, 5-5, Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls) - recorded a .500 batting average in a 6-0 week for the Red Storm...was 8 for 16 with three runs scored and three RBI...produced six sacrifice bunts to move runners ahead on the basepath...had a .500 slugging mark and a .529 on-base rate.

Randi Johns (photo) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 1B, R/R, 5-7, Waddell, AZ/Millennium) - hit .714 in two games for the Antelopes last week...went 5 for 7 with three runs, two RBI and a double...recorded an .857 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base rate.

Tracy Lubken - Grand Canyon (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-4, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) - batted .625 in two games for the Antelopes...went 5 for 8 with two runs scored and two RBI...recorded a .625 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base average.

Dabney M cIntyre (photo) - Dixie State (Sr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) - led Dixie State to a 6-0 week by hitting .600 (12 for 20)...scored nine runs, drove in 11, doubled twice and hit two homers...posted a 1.000 slugging mark and a .652 on-base rate.

Kelsey Mendenhall - Dixie State (Fr., 3B/SS, R/R, 5-4, Tooele, UT/Tooele) - guided the Red Storm to a 6-0 week by hitting .526 with a .737 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base rate...went 10 for 19 with seven runs, five RBI and two triples.

Breanna Morales - NDNU (Jr., U, R/R, 6-0, Lancaster, CA/H.S. Unavailable) - hit .455 in four starts for the Argos...went 5 for 11 with two runs scored and two RBI...produced a .500 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging rate.

Krystal Plunkett (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-6, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) - batted .625 in a doubleheader sweep of BYU-Hawaii last week...went 5 for 8 with a run, two doubles, a homer and two RBI...had a 1.250 slugging mark and a .625 on-base rate.

Ivy Sessions - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., SS/3B, R/R, 5-8, Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) - hit .583 in four starts for the Seasiders...went 7 for 12 with three runs scored, a double and two RBI...walked once and stole a base...recorded a .667 slugging rate and a .615 on-base mark.

Samantha Tiefenthaler - Grand Canyon (Jr., P, R/R, 5-7, Prescott Valley, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain) - recorded a shutout victory over Chaminade in lone assignment of the week...struck out three, allowed two hits and walked just one batter...permitted a .087 batting average.
