Johns named Player of Week; Folta claims pitching honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Grand Canyon senior 1B Randi Johns (Waddell, AZ/Millennium) was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, while Dixie State rookie hurler Lauren Folta (Erda, UT/Tooele) claimed the PacWest Pitcher of the Week award as the chase for a conference title heated up last week.

Player of the Week (March 16-22) - Randi Johns (photo right) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 1B, R/R, 5-7, Waddell, AZ/Millennium) - hit 467 in six starts for the Antelopes by going 7 for 15 with three doubles, five walks and a home run...scored nine runs and drove in nine others...reached base twice after being hit by  a pitch...stole a base...posted an .867 slugging mark and an on-base percentage of .636 .

 Pitcher of the Week (March 16-22) - Lauren Folta (photo left) - Dixie State (Fr., P, R/R, 5-5, Erda, UT/Tooele) - posted a 2-0 record in two starts for the Red Storm...tossed 14 innings that resulted in two complete games and one shutout...struck out 11, walked just one, and permitted no earned runs for a 0.00 ERA.

 

PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Kahealani Alohikea-Betham (photo) - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 3B/2B, R/R, 5-5, Mililani, HI/Mililani) - hit .435 in eight starts for the Seasiders...went 10 for 23 with five runs scored, three doubles, two homers and seven RBI...reached base twice on HBP...stole one base...recorded an .826 slugging mark and a .480 on-base percentage.

Kelli Bridges - Grand Canyon (Jr., SS, R/R, 5-4, Coeur d'Alene, ID/Lake City) - batted 444 in six starts for the Antelopes...went 8 for 18 with five runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and a walk...hit a pair of sacrifice flys and dropped a sacrifice bunt...posted a .429 on-base average and a .556 slugging rate.

Bailie Hicken - Dixie State (Fr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak) - went 6 for 14 with a run scored and one RBI...stole two bases, walked once and had a .467 on-base percentage...also turned in a .429 slugging rate.

Tana Holtorf - Grand Canyon (Sr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) - hit .522 in six games for the Antelopes...was 12 for 23 with eight runs scored, three doubles, four RBI, one walk and a stolen base...produced a .652 slugging rate and a 542 on-base percentage.

Courtney Kessell (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., P, R/R, 5-6, Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) - recorded a 2-0 mark in two starts with one complete game...posted a 0.54 ERA in 13 innings of action...allowed one earned run, one walk and a .180 batting average while striking out nine.

Nicole Lorenzi - Grand Canyon (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-3, Phoenix, AZ/Horizon) - batted .412 in six games...was 7 for 17 with five runs scored, three RBI, one double and four walks...was 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts...had a .524 on-base rate and a .471 slugging average.

Sherise Musquiz - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., P, R/R, 6-0, Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) - recorded a 2-0 week with a 1.27 ERA in two appearances...threw one complete game and one shutout...in 11 innings of work, scattered nine hits while giving up two earned runs, two walks and a .250 batting average...struck out three.

Krystal Plunkett - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-6, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) - batted 727 in four starts for the Vulcans...was 8 for 11 with five runs scored, one home run and five RBI...walked three times...posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a 786 on-base rate.

Ciera Senas - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., OF, L/R, 5-4, Wahiawa, HI/Mililani) - batted .462 in four starts, going 6 for 13 with six runs scored, two doubles and two RBI...walked twice...registered a .615 slugging rate and a .533 on-base mark.

Katresha Veazie (photo) - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., P, R/R, 5-10, Erda, UT/Grantsville) - workhorse of the Seasider staff...saw action in six games, including four starts last week...posted a 3-1 record with a 2.39 earned run average...struck out 12 in 29.1 innings of work...recorded a pair of complete-game shutouts...opponents hit just 219.
