With bases load in home 8th, Mendenall takes one for the team to give Dixie State 7-6 victory

ST. GEORGE, UT - Dixie State's Kelsey Mendenhall was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to force in the winning run as the Red Storm downed Cal State Monterey Bay 7-6 on Friday in the NCAA Division II West Regional in St. George, UT.

Mendenhall tied the game in the sixth at 6-6 on a base hit after the Otters had taken a 6-4 lead with four runs in the sixth inning. Shantae Hunter's sacrifice fly brought Dixie State (37-10) within one at 6-5. Mendenhall's game-tying hit came after Ashley McFarland and Haley Schumers both walked with two outs.

Mendenhall had jumpstarted the Red Storm with a solo home run in the second inning before Dixie State scored three additional runs on three errors by the Otters (36-26-1).

The Red Storm didn't score again until trailing 6-4. Valerie Calderon's three-run pinch-hit homer was the catalyst for Cal State Monterey Bay when the Otters scored four times to take the lead.

Cal State Monterey Bay outhit Dixie State 11-8. Mendenhall finished the game with two hits and three runs batted in.
