Dixie State's Egge, GCU's Tiefenthaler claim honors

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Dixie State sophomore catcher Breanna Egge (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week and Grand Canyon junior hurler Samantha Tiefenthaler (Prescott Valley, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain) earned PacWest Pitcher of the Week honors during the third week of competition in 2009.
 
Player of the Week (Feb. 16-22) - Breanna Egge (photo) - Dixie State (So., C, R/R, 5-4, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...hit .750 in four starts for the Red Storm...went 6 for 8 with four runs scored, six RBI, a double and a home run...walked three times...produced a 1.250 slugging percentage and an .818 on-base mark...also stole a base.

Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 16-22) - Samantha Tiefenthaler - Grand Canyon (Jr., R/R, 5-7, Prescott Valley, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain)...recorded a 3-0 record in three appearances...tossed three complete games with one shutout...recorded nine strikeouts, recorded a 1.05 ERA and permitted a .197 batting average...allowed just three earned runs in 20 innings of work.

PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Natasha Dypchey - Grand Canyon (Jr., P/2B, L/R, 5-6, Surrey, BC/Corona Del Sol) - posted a 2-0 record with a 0.66 ERA in two appearances for the Antelopes...allowed just one earned run and four base hits over 10.2 innings of work...opponents hit just .121 against her.

Lauren Esteban - NDNU (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-5, Mountain View, CA/Unavailable) - hit .500 for the week by going 3 for 6 in the Argos' lone doubleheader of the week...drove in two runs and scored once...NDNU won both contests.

Lauren Folta - Dixie State (Fr., P, R/R, 5-5, Erda, UT/Tooele) - posted a 2-0 record in two starts for the Red Storm...tossed 14 innings that yielded two complete games and a shutout...struck out seven batters...registered a 2.00 ERA with a .229 batting average allowed.

Randi Johns (photo) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 1B, R/R, 5-7, Waddell, AZ/Millennium) - posted a 9-for-17 week (.529 average) in six starts for the Antelopes...scored six runs, drove in three others...also doubled twice and tripled once...walked five times...produced a .765 slugging rate and a .652 on-base mark.

Courtney Kessell - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., P, R/R, 5-6, Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) - posted a 2-0 mark with a 0.50 ERA in three appearances and two starts...chucked two complete games...allowed a .183 batting average in 19 innings of action...gave up just one earned run and one extra-base hit.

Maile Kim - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., UT, R/R, 5-3, Salinas, CA/Notre Dame) - hit .500 for the week in four starts for the Sea Warriors...went 8 for 16 with three runs scored, eight RBI, a double and a home run...posted a .750 slugging rate and a .500 on-base percentage.

Dabney McIntyre - Dixie State (Sr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) - hit .545 in four games by going 6 for 11 at the plate with six runs scored and three RBI...produced a .727 slugging mark and a .583 on-base average...doubled twice and walked once.

Ashley McFarland - Dixie State (Fr., IF, R/R, 5-9, Layton, UT/Layton) - batted .545 in four starts by going 6 for 11 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI...produced a .545 slugging mark and a .615 on-base rate...also walked twice and stole two bases.

Sherise Musquiz - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., P, R/R, 6-0, Pico Rivera, CA/El Rancho) - recorded a 2-0 mark in two appearances...posted a 0.00 ERA while allowing a .161 batting average...struck out four and gave up five hits in eight innings.

Haley Schumers - Dixie State (Sr., P/3B, R/R, 5-7, Plain City, UT/Fremont) - posted a complete-game, shutout victory in her lone start of the week...scattered five hits and struck out four batters over five innings of work...offensively hit .385 in four starts by going 5 for 13 with a run, double, home run and seven RBI.
