Hawai‘i Pacific sweeps weekly PacWest awards

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific swept the PacWest Player and Pitcher of the Week awards thanks to excellent performances from senior SS Krystal Plunket (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) and senior hurler Courtney Kessell (Waimanalo, HI/Kailua)

Player of the Week (March 2-8) - Krystal Plunkett (photo right)- Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., SS, R/R, 5-6, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) - batted .583 in four games for the Sea Warriors...was 7 for 12 with three runs scored and three doubles...posted an .833 slugging rate and a .615 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week (March 2-8) - Courtney Kessell (photo left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., P, R/R, 5-6, Waimanalo, HI/Kailua) - registered a 1-1 mark last week with a 0.50 earned run average...tossed two complete games in two starts...struck out seven batters in 14 innings of action...allowed one earned run and a .226 batting average.

PacWest Softball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Tajia Acierto (photo) - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., OF, R/R, 5-2, Kapolei, HI/Kapolei) - batted .545 in four starts for the Sea Warriors, going 6 for 11 with three runs and two RBI...doubled twice and stole a base...had a .727 slugging rate and a 583 on-base mark.

Kelli Bridges - Grand Canyon (Jr., SS, R/R, 5-4, Coeur d'Alene, ID/Lake City) - hit .462 in five games...was 6 for 13 with three runs, three RBI and two doubles..boasted a .615 slugging mark and a .462 on-base rate.

Tana Holtorf - Grand Canyon (Sr., OF, R/R, 5-4, Peoria, AZ/Sunrise Mountain) - hit .389 in five starts for the Antelopes...was 7 for 18 with three runs scored...drove in five runs and ripped a pair of doubles...walked and stole a base...produced a 500 slugging rate and a .421 on-base percentage.

Randi Johns (photo left) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 1B, R/R, 5-7, Waddell, AZ/Millennium) - hit .333 for the week...was 5 for 15 with two runs scored, one double, two RBI and two walks...had a .412 on-base mark and a .400 slugging rate.

Maile Kim - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., UT, R/R, 5-3, Salinas, CA/Notre Dame) - turned in a .455 batting average in four starts...went 5 for 11 with a run, three doubles and three RBI...walked twice and had a stolen base...recorded a .727 slugging rate and a 538 on-base percentage.

Melissa Lehano (photo right) - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 3B/2B, R/R, 5-5, Mililani, HI/Mililani) - batted .462 in four starts...was 6 for 13 with three runs, three RBI and a homer...had a 692 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base mark.

Morgan Necaise - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 1B/C, R/R, 5-4, Bay St. Louis, MS/Hancock) - hit .500 in two starts last week...was 2 for 4 with a run scored and a double...also walked twice...had a .667 on-base rate...checked in with a .750 slugging percentage.

Erika Reay - Grand Canyon (Jr., C, R/R, 5-6, Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) - hit .467 in five starts, going 7 for 15 with four runs scored...doubled twice and drove in one run...posted a .600 slugging mark and a .467 on-base rate.

Ivy Sessions - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., SS/3B, R/R, 5-8, Huntington Beach, CA/Huntington Beach) - hit .364 in four starts...went 4 for 11 at the plate with a run, RBI, and a stolen base.

Skye Virtudes - Chaminade (Sr., C, R/R, 5-5, Honolulu, HI/Mililani) - hit .500 in two starts for the Silverswords...was 3 for 6 with two runs, one home run and two RBI...boasted a 1.000 slugging rate and a .500 on-base mark.
