Hawai‘i Hilo's Fabiane Seben claims Volleyball Player of Week
Sophomore middle hitter Fabiane Seben (Hawai‘i
Hilo) has been selected the PacWest
Volleyball Player of the Week...the 6-1 native of
Caxias do Sul, Brazil, is a transfer from
Seminole (FL) St. College...she accumulated 31 kills, 10
block assists and 9 service aces in three matches and was named to
the all-tournament team at Alaska Fairbanks.
Chaminade off to terrific start behind rookie setter Tanya Alvino
Chaminade University of Honolulu has jumped out to a 7-1 record thanks to rookie setter Tanya Alvino who was chosen as the first PacWest Volleyball Player of the Week on August 27...the freshman from Brentwood, CA, was named the MVP of the Hawaaian Style Classic on August 25 after leading Chaminade to a 4-0 start on the season...she averaged 11.87 assists per game and 3.13 digs per contest while competing in 15 games...she posted 55 assists vs. Briar Cliff in that event.
Grand Canyon sophomore outside hitter Dana Edington (Peoria, AZ/Centennial) has been named to two straight all-tournament teams to start the year...in Kansas City this past weekend, the 2006 PacWest Freshman of the Year pounded out 15 kills in a loss to #22 Rockhurst University...she has 90 kills this season in eight matches...Edington was also named to the Best Western Alamosa Inn/Grizzly Inn Volleyball Classic hosted by Adams (CO) State...she had 46 kills.
In addition to winning this week's honor, Seben was a first-team Hawaiian Style Classic selection on August 25 as Hawai‘i Hilo finished the tournament with a 3-1 record...in 15 games, Seben collected 23 total blocks, 53 kills attempts, recorded a .254 kill percentage and posted 16 digs.
