Trina Kauliakamoa selected PacWest Player of the Week

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Chaminade junior outside hitter Trina Kauliakamoa (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) has been named the PacWest Player of the Week...the honor was announced by the PacWest Office on Monday, October 15, and included all matches during the week of Oct. 8-14...Kauliakamoa led the Silverswords to a 1-1 week in a pair of PacWest conference matches at NDNU...she produced 31 kills, averaging 4.43 per game, and pounded out seven service aces for a 1.00 per game average...she also was solid on defense, recording 21 digs for a 3.00 per game mark...overall for the week, she averaged 5.50 points per game.

 

 

Vulcans take commanding PacWest lead with sweep

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo hit the midpoint of its schedule over the weekend with a vengeance. The Vulcans swept BYU-Hawai‘i in a pair of PacWest home matches, improving their record to 7-0 in the league with seven straight victories. Now at 16-5 overall, UHH has a three-match lead over NDNU in the loss column with seven matches to play.

There was no one dominating player for the Vulcans, instead a group effort yielded a 3-2 victory on Friday night followed by a 3-0 sweep on Saturday. Matched with a 3-0 win against non-league foe Domincan (CA), UHH finished the week with a 3-0 record. Sophomore setter Desiree Agader (Kekaha, HI/Waimea) posted 103 assists for the week, averaging 12.88 per game, while sophomore Josimara Pinheiro (Taiaqc, Brazil) punched out 44 kills and sophomore Laura Rodriguez (Brownsville, TX) recorded 80 digs (7.27 p/g).

Hawai‘i Pacific won its lone match of the week over Dominican thanks to freshman MH Cari Kahn's (Moraga, CA/Campolino) .600 hitting percentage (10 kills in 15 attempts), Kelly Balanay's (San Diego, CA/Valhalla) 17 kills and Jackie Tedesco's (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty)14 digs.

NDNU and Chaminade split a pair of matches in California over the weekend with the Silverswords taking the first match 3-1 and the Argos rebounding with a 3-0 win in the second battle. Chaminade senior Lila Sapolu (Moreno, CA/Canyon Springs) churned out 10 service aces in the two matches, while sophomore Chauntelle Maduli (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha) posted 28 digs. The Argos were led by freshman Ashley Fox (San Francisco, CA/Mercy-PHOTO) who hit .469 with 16 kills and eight total blocks. Sophomore Lauren Quach (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) recorded 23 digs.

BYU-Hawai‘i rookie Tanza Buroker (Riverton, UT/Riverton) was the top rejecter for the week after she registered 14 block assists in the two matches at UHH.

Dixie State and Grand Canyon also split a pair of PacWest matches in Phoenix over the weekend. The Rebels were led by junior Shalie Flannery (Blanding, UT/San Juan) with 29 kills and freshman Anna Bullard (Farmington, UT/Davis) with 66 assists

GCU saw senior Audra Slemmer (Chandler, AZ/Mountain Pointe) yield 121 assists for the week (11.00 p/g) and sophomore OH Dana Edington (Peoria, AZ/Centennial) record 45 kills. The Lopes also beat Southwestern (AZ) 3-0 on Tuesday.
