Grand Canyon rookie Samantha Murphy chosen PacWest Player of the Week

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Grand Canyon rookie guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) has been selected the PacWest Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The honor is for games played from Dec. 10-16.

Despite an 0-3 week for the Antelopes, Murphy averaged 11.7 points per game. She made 16 of 20 free throws (80%) and averaged 2.0 steals per contest.

She also averaged 5.0 rebounds per game by pulling down 15 boards over the three non-league contests.

  

PacWest tests mettle against best teams in the nation - North Dakota, Northwest Missouri St., UC San Diego

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - The PacWest did not come up with a victory during the week, but the young programs of the conference certainly showed some moxie by playing NCAA Division II national powerhouses North Dakota, UC San Diego and Northwest Missouri State.

BYU-Hawaii: The Seasiders dropped their lone contest of the week to North Dakota... sophomore guard Agnes Tuilevuka (Suva, Fiji) posted seven points, three rebounds, and made 5 of 7 free throw attempts.

Chaminade: Unexpectedly picked up a game vs. Northwest Missouri State on Sunday, falling by 68 points...also lost to Alaska Fairbanks...senior guard Marian Murphy (Benicia, CA/St. Patrick-St. Vincent) averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game...senior Simrin Cummins (Eugene, OR/North Eugene) averaged 10.0 points per contest.

Dixie State: Did Not Play.

Grand Canyon: Went 0-3 during the week, falling once at home and twice in Southern California...sophomore forward Stacy Haddow (Chino Valley, AZ/Chino Valley) contributed 6.0 rebounds and 8.3 points per game during the stretch.

Hawai‘i Hilo: Drop ped a tough contest vs. Alaska Fairbanks 73-62...senior guard Krystlelyn Omlan (Lahaina, HI/Lahaina) scored 13 points by shooting 71.4% (5 for 7) from the field...made 3 of 4 three-pointers...senior forward Chrystal Hodson (Kamuela, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) dropped in an even dozen...sophomore forward Samantha Nordstrom (Redmond, OR/Redmond) pulled down 10 boards.

Hawai‘i Pacific: Faced powerful North Dakota in its lone game of the week...led by senior guard Ashley Jenkins (Ft. Washington, MD/Stephenson) who topped the PacWest in scoring for the week...she scored 16.0 points per game...drained four three-pointers and collected five rebounds.

NDNU: Lost by 19 vs. San Francisco State in a non-league rivalry contest...led by sophomore forward Jennifer Dreessen (Danville, CA/San Ramon Valley - photo) who posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds...junior forward Britni Rathke (Snohomish, WA/Snohomish) scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds, posted four steals and made 3 of 6 field goal attempts (50%).
