Sheila Azevedo claims PacWest Player of the Week honor
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo junior forward
Sheila Azevedo (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) has
been chosen the PacWest Player of the Week.
The honor is for games contested from Jan. 7-13.
Azevedo led the Vulcans to a 2-0 record for the week and into first place in the PacWest by averaging 24.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in a pair of victories over Hawai‘i Pacific.
She led the conference in both categories during the week while also shooting 52.9% from the field (18 for 34). She contributed a a trio of three-pointers and grabbed four steals for good measure.

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - After an 0-7 non-league start, Hawai‘i Hilo has reeled off three straight PacWest victories and now stands as the only unbeaten club in the conference. Dixie State, meanwhile, hung a loss on reigning champion Grand Canyon in St. George, UT, on Saturday. Here is this week's PacWest roundup:
BYU-Hawaii: The Seasiders beat Chaminade 84-55.
Chaminade: The Silverswords dropped an 84-55 decision vs. BYU-Hawaii on Saturday during their lone contest of the week.
Dixie State: The Rebels split a pair of PacWest games vs.
Grand Canyon, saddling the Antelopes with their first loss in
league play this year...Dixie State is now in third place in the
PacWest, just a game behind GCU and tied with first-place UHH in
the win column...junior forward Jessica Carver (Layton,
UT/Layton - photo) averaged 19.0 points and 8.5
rebounds per game vs. Grand Canyon...she also led the league in
blocked shots (7) and was perfect from the foul line (10 for
10)...junior guard Lindsey Chettinger (Sergeant Bluff,
IA/Sergeant Bluff) drained seven three-pointers vs.
Grand Canyon - tops in the league for the week.
Grand Canyon: Antelope rookie guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) averaged 15.5 points per game while in St. George this past weekend...she hit 9 of 17 field goal attempts (52.9%) and pulled down 5.5 rebounds per game...junior forward Ashley Hardin (Chandler, AZ/Marcos de Niza) shared the honors as the top rebounder of the week in the PacWest after pulling down 11.0 per contest...senior center Sara Dalgliesh (Grangeville, ID/Grangeville) pulled down 8.0 boards per outing.
Hawai‘i Hilo: The Vulcans are now 3-0 in the PacWest after sweeping HPU during the week...junior guard Ashley Kualii (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) posted 15.0 points per game as she rained field goals from beyond the arc...she shot 80.0% (4 for 5) from three-point land and was 7 for 11 from the field (63.6%)...she also made 92.3% of her free throw attempts - converting 12 of 13 shots - and averaged 3.5 assists per game.
Hawai‘i Pacific: The Sea Warriors dropped a pair of contests to rival Hawai‘i Hilo over the weekend...HPU was led again by senior guard Ashley Jenkins (Ft. Washington, MD/Stephenson) who averaged 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.33 assists per contest in the two losses...junior guard Karras Blate (Yosemite, CA/Yosemite) tossed in 14.0 points per game.
