Sara Dalgliesh claims PacWest Women's Basketball Player of the Week
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Grand Canyon
senior center Sara Dalgliesh (Grangeville,
ID/Grangeville) has been chosen the PacWest
Player of the Week.
The honor is for games contested from Jan. 14-20.
Dalgliesh led the Antelopes to a 2-1 record on their trip to Hawai‘i, including a victory over first-place Hawai‘i Hilo.
She averaged 16.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game over three contests, shooting 61.8% (21 for 34) from the field.
The veteran frontcourt player led the PacWest in field goals made for the week, and she was fourth in scoring and tied for fifth in rebounding. She shot 80% from the foul line by going 8 for 10).
Hawai‘i Hilo, GCU split; Dixie State, NDNU just game out in loss column
QUEEN CREEK, AZ - Like a bunch of tennis balls being batted around the court, the PacWest mixed it up last week in Hawai‘i as six of the seven conference teams were in action. Hawai‘i Hilo remained in first place in the conference after splitting with Grand Canyon, but the Antelopes, NDNU and Dixie State are all just one game back in the loss column. Here is this week's PacWest roundup:
BYU-Hawaii: The Seasiders
dropped both games to cross-island rival Hawai‘i Pacific last
week...freshman Richelle Fenebock (Coeur d'Alene,
ID/Lake City) averaged 18.5 ppg. to pace the
Seasiders.
Chaminade: The Silverswords are still looking for their first victory of the season, but gave NDNU all it could handle on Saturday night in an eight-point loss...senior guard Katherine Carlisle (Wishkah, WA/Wishkah - photo) averaged 13.7 ppg. for Chaminade...she also shot 59.1% for the week (13 for 22).
Dixie State: No games scheduled.
Grand Canyon: Antelope rookie guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) averaged 14.0 ppg. in Hawai‘i...she was 11 for 11 from the foul line...sophomore guard Rosalyn Nelson (Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley) had strong player of the week considerations after producing 17.3 points, 8.0 assists and 3.33 steals per game.
Hawai‘i Hilo: The Vulcans are now 5-1 in the PacWest and hold a one-game lead in the loss column over the three Mainland schools...junior forward Sheila Azevedo (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) made a case for taking PacWest Player of the Week honors for the second straight time after averaging 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per contest...she also shot 57.1% (20 for 35) from the field...junior guard Nesha Kimitete (Kailua-Kona, HI/Konawaena) had one of the best weeks of her season with a 14.3 ppg. rate...she also averaged 5.33 assists per game...junior guard Ashley Kualii (Hilo, HI/Waiakea) ranked third in the conference in assists (7.67 average)...she totaled 23.
Hawai‘i Pacific: The Sea Warriors swept BYU-Hawaii
and have now won back-to-back games for the first time this
year...senior guard Ashley Jenkins (Ft. Washington,
MD/Stephenson - photo) made an argument for her
second player of the week award by leading the PacWest in scoring
(19.5 ppg)...she also shared top honors in assists by handing out
8.0 per game (16 total) and averaged 3.0 steals per
contest...senior center Jocelyn Norris (Bakersfield,
CA/Liberty) led the league in rebounding for the
week, averaging 9.0 in two games...junior center Angela
Spence (Carpinteria, CA/Santa Barbara) connected on
10 of 19 shots from the field for a 52.6% shooting average.
NDNU: The Argos won two out of three games in Hawai‘i...sophomore forward Jennifer Dreesen (Danville, CA/San Ramon) was phenomenal from the field, shooting 66.7% (16 for 24) and averaging 13.7 ppg...she also pulled down 7.0 rebounds per contest...junior guard Sandy Perry (Palmdale, CA/Palmdale) and senior guard Corazon Riley (Antioch, CA/Antioch) each doled out 5.33 assists per game.
