BYU-Hawai‘i widens lead; NDNU suffers tough overtime losses; Grand Canyon forward sets all-time women's soccer mark at school

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - As the PacWest women's soccer season approaches the midway point of the conference schedule, BYU-Hawai‘i owns a five-point lead over both Dixie State and Grand Canyon.

The Seasiders are 4-0 (12 points) on the year and 7-3-1 overall. BYU-Hawai‘i picked up a 1-0 win vs. San Francisco State on Wednesday, then flew back to the islands for a 2-0 conference victory vs. Chaminade.

Freshman forward Kahanu Ah Puck (Hauula, Oahu, HI/Kahuku - PHOTO) scored a pair of goals last week, including the game-winner vs. Chaminade.

While the Seasiders are still unbeaten, the Argos of NDNU are just seconds away from being 3-1 in the PacWest instead of 1-3. NDNU lost a pair of excruciating games this week in double overtime, falling at Dixie State on Friday 2-1 and then at Grand Canyon 3-2 on Saturday.

Sophomore Catherine Ponce (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces) leads NDNU in points (6).

Dixie State grabbed a win and a draw in conference play last week by tying Grand Canyon 1-1 and nipping NDNU.

Sophomore Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak) had a goal and an assist, while freshman middie Shannon Larsen (Salt Lake City, UT /Skyline) punched home the game-winner vs. NDNU in double-overtime.

Grand Canyon was 1-1-1 after collecting a PacWest victory over NDNU thanks to Vanessa Young (San Diego/El Sereno).

The junior forward scored twice in the 3-2 double-overtime win to become the school's all-time leading scorer (22). Young is also GCU's all-time points leader (53), and she holds Antelope records for goals (13) and points (32) in a season (2005).

Hawai‘i Pacific had just one match on the week - an 11-0 loss vs. D-I Hawai‘i on Sunday.

Hawai‘i Hilo was off for the week but returns to action against Chaminade on Thursday for just its second PacWest game of the season.

Chaminade played BYU-Hawai‘i tough last week, but the Silverswords are still looking for their first goal since opening day. Geri Tennessen (Yigo, Guam) has Chaminade's lone goal this year.
