Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii women's soccer team received the Pacific West Conference automatic bid to the NCAA II West Regional Tournament today and will head to the Pacific Northwest for their first post-season action in the short, three-year history of the program.
The Seasiders, seeded sixth for the tournament, will face
third-seeded UC San Diego on Thursday at 7 pm at Seattle Pacific's
Interbay field.
The winner of that match will face the host school and second
seed, Seattle Pacific, on Saturday at 1 pm for the right to advance
to the next round the following week.
BYU-Hawaii won the Pacific West Conference championship for the
second year in a row with a record of 10-2 in conference play and
14-4 overall.
Last year the Pacific West Conference did not have an automatic
bid to the regional tournament and the Seasiders were not selected
for an at-large berth.
UC San Diego went 14-3-4 this season and was the champion of the
California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 7-1-2 record.
BYU-Hawaii and UC San Diego have met just once before, last season, with the Tritons eking out a tough, 1-0 win in Laie.
The teams played just two common opponents this season, Sonoma State and Academy of Art.
The Seasiders lost to Sonoma State 4-1 back on August 30th and defeated Academy of Art 5-0 on September 13.
UC San Diego defeated Sonoma State 2-1 on October 30th and beat Academy of Art 1-0 on October 25.
