Becky Ploeger earns PacWest weekly honor as BYU-Hawaii heads to NCAA II post-season

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - BYU-Hawaii sophomore goalkeeper Becky Ploeger (Broomfield, CO/Standley Lake) guided her club to a 3-0-0 week and the PacWest Championship, earning her the final Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week honor for 2008.

The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Queen Creek, AZ, on Wednesday, Nov. 12, for games played from Nov. 3-9.

Ploeger recorded a 0.00 goals against average in 225 minutes of action, including two shutouts. She halted all seven shots on goal flung her way and blanked both Grand Canyon and NDNU to help lead her club to the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time in school history.

PacWest Weekly Top 10 Women's Soccer Honor Roll

Erin Beeston - Dixie State (So., M, Edmond, OK/Edmond)...produced a goal and an assist in three games for Dixie State...scored game-winning goal in overtime on Nov. 5 in a 3-2 victory vs. HPU...assisted on game-winning goal vs. UHH on Nov. 7 in a 3-0 win.

Sarah Biser (photo) - Notre Dame de Namur (Fr., M/F, 5-7, Newark, CA/Newark Memorial)... registered eight points on four goals in 6-2 victory over Chaminade on Nov. 5.

Shanna Brown - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., GK, 5-9, Fairbanks, AK/Lathrop)...earned a shutout victory over NDNU on Nov. 3...finished the week with a 1-0-0 record while playing in 124:57...produced a 0.72 goals against average with 11 saves...had a .917 save percentage.

Natalie Cude - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., M, 5-4, Sandy, UT/Alta)...recorded a goal and an assist for three points last week...scored game-winning goal on a penalty kick in 2-1 victory over Dixie State on Nov. 3...recorded game-winning goal vs. Grand Canyon on Nov. 5...helped lead BYU-Hawaii to the PacWest title and a berth in the NCAA II Tournament.

Chelsea Gomez - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., M, 5-4, Whittier, CA/El Dorado)...scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal on a penalty kick vs. NDNU on Nov. 3...Vulcans claimed the victory 3-0.

Kaylen Jackson - Grand Canyon (Jr., M/F, 5-3, Tucson, AZ/Amphitheater)...registered a five-point week for the Antelopes over three games...scored two goals and added an assist.

Jamie Lindstrom (photo) - Chaminade (So., F, 5-4, Woodinville, WA)...produced four points on two goals in a 6-2 loss vs. NDNU.

Caitlyn McNeely - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., D/MF, Littleton, CO/Chatfield)...produced a four-point week in two games...scored game-winning goal on Nov. 7 in a 2-1 win over Grand Canyon...assisted on both goals in a 3-2 twin-overtime loss vs. Dixie State on Nov. 5.

Angela Russell - Grand Canyon (Jr., M, 5-6, Phoenix, AZ/Greenway)...produced four points on two goals during road trip to Hawai‘i...tied game 1-1 at HPU on Nov. 7...GCU eventually lost 2-1...converted a penalty kick during 5-0 win at Chaminade on Nov. 3.

Sarah Welty - BYU-Hawaii (So., F, 5-3, Elverta, CA/Center)...led BYU-Hawaii to the PacWest title and a berth in the NCAAs with a four-point week...scored game-winning goal vs. NDNU on Nov. 7 to clinch the league title...scored an insurance goal vs. Grand Canyon on Nov. 5 in a 2-0 win.
