BYU-Hawai‘i snares 3 PacWest road wins; Dixie St. offense spurs success

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - With five straight victories and a 3-0 run through the conference last week, BYU-Hawai‘i has rampaged atop the PacWest with a perfect league record. The Seasiders edged both Dixie State (4-3) and NDNU (2-1) to close out their week-long excursion on the Mainland.

Defense has been a key since the Seasiders lead the league in keeping the ball out of their own net (1.34 GAA). Offensively, senior Jill Harr (Diamond Bar, CA/Walnut) ranks third in the league with seven goals, 15 points, and a 1.88 points per game average. The Seasiders continue their roadtrip with stops at Cal State Monterey Bay, San Francisco State and then Chaminade before heading home.

BYU-Hawai‘i may have the top defense, but the Rebels of Dixie State carry the PacWest offensive banner with three of the top four scorers in the league. Sophomore Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak) and freshman Erika Mouritsen (Wellsville, UT/Mountain Crest - PHOTO) share the PacWest lead in points (18), goals (8), goals per game (1.00), and points per game (2.25), while freshman Erin Beeston (Edmond, OK/Edmond) ranks fourth in points (10), goals (4) and points per game (1.25).

Hawai‘i Pacific picked up its first victory of the season by knocking off Northwood (TX) 4-3 on September 17. Rookie forward Vailima Walker (Ka‘a‘awa, HI/Kahuku) scored the game's first goal, then closed out the offense by tallying the game-winner.

Hawai‘i Hilo edged HPU 1-0 on Saturday thanks to an overtime goal by rookie Jani Carmona (Lompoc, CA/Lompoc). The victory leaves the Vulcans and Seasiders as the only two unbeaten squads in the league. Both NDNU and Grand Canyon beat Chaminade last week to even their PacWest records at 1-1.
